Back to top 5/3/2009 Walker, Kirkhoff advance to finals of MASCAC Men's Tennis Championships ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S TENNIS Sunday, May 3, 2009 Elizabethtown at MASCAC Men's Tennis Championships Tournament results WILKES-BARRE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College competed at the two-day Middle Atlantic Conference men's tennis singles and doubles tournament, which concluded Sunday. Junior Brok Walker (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) advanced to the finals at flight two singles, where he lost 6-3, 6-3 to Imran Choudhury of Manhattanville College, while senior Jeff Kirkhoff (Duncannon, PA/Susquenita) fell 6-4, 6-3 to Manhattanville's Michael Capozzin in finals at flight three. Walker, who is Elizabethtown's all-time leader in singles wins with 48, advanced to the finals with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Blake Bonser of King's College in the semifinals. Kirkhoff defeated Kevin Langner of Arcadia University 6-3, 6-1 to move into the championship round. In doubles, the team of Walker and first-year student Jonathan van den Ende (Amsterdam, the Netherlands) moved into the semifinals at flight two before falling 8-6 to Evan Katz and Jon Rohrbach of Wilkes University, while Kirkhoff and sophomore Brian Osborn (Sayre, PA/Sayre) were semifinalists at flight three where they were defeated by Hugo Robinson and Dean Tahir of Manhattanville 8-6. Kirkhoff/Osborn 8-6 Back to top 4/30/2009 Men's tennis places three on All-Commonwealth team FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Thursday, April 30, 2009 Elizabethtown Places Three on All-Commonwealth Men's Tennis Team Arrea was also named first-team All-Conference, and was joined on the first team by junior Brok Walker (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) and on the second team by senior Jeff Kirkhoff (Duncannon, PA/Susquenita). Arrea is the first Blue Jay to be named Rookie of the Year since Thomas Nyst in 2005, while Walker is a repeat first-team selection. Kirkhoff is a second-team pick after being named to the first team last season. Arrea has a 16-3 overall record in number-one singles, including a 14-1 mark in dual matches, and has compiled a 13-6 record in doubles playing with three different partners. He shares the Player of the Year award with Jansen Hein of Messiah College. Walker has a 14-4 overall record at number-two singles for the Blue Jays, with a 12-2 record in dual matches, and is 12-8 at number-two doubles. In Three seasons, Walker has a 45-21 singles record for the Blue Jays. Kirkhoff has compiled an 11-5 overall record at number-three singles, and is 10-4 in dual matches. Kirkhoff is 11-6 in doubles while playing primarily at flight three. The Blue Jays (12-4 overall) finished as runner-up to Lebanon Valley College in the Commonwealth Conference team tournament, and will compete at the Middle Atlantic Conference individual championships in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday and Sunday. Lebanon Valley led 2-1 after doubles, with first-year student Manrique Arrea (San Jose, Costa Rica/Lincoln School) and sophomore Bryan Metz (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) accounting for Elizabethtown's point with an 8-2 win over Jon Gingrich and Jared Zeigler at flight one. Walker's win was his 44th career singles victory, breaking the school record of 43 wins set by Mike Bailey from 1986-89. Kirkhoff won four matches in four days at number-three singles as the Blue Jays clinched the top seed in next weekend's Commonwealth Conference team tournament. His three-set victory at Messiah College on Saturday gave the Blue Jays a 5-4 win and first place in the conference. In addition to his four singles wins, Kirkhoff teamed with sophomore Brian Osborn for three doubles victories and junior Brok Walker for one doubles win. Walker went 2-1 in singles and 3-0 in doubles last week, losing a total of five games in his two singles wins and teaming with sophomore Bryan Metz to win 24 of 29 doubles games. In singles, Walker defeated Tom Allen of DeSales University 6-2, 6-2 while playing flight two on Wednesday, and downed Nick Tarlecki of Immaculata University 6-1, 6-0 from flight one on Thursday.
