ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College's softball team dropped both games of their Commonwealth Conference doubleheader to first-place Messiah College on Saturday afternoon at The Nest, by scores of 4-1 and 4-2. The Falcons improve to 32-4 overall (12-0 Commonwealth) with the wins while the Blue Jays finish the season with an 11-25 record and 4-8 in the conference.

In game 1, Jessica Rhoads finished with 16 strikeouts for Messiah, while Abby Bergakker and Lauren Seneca hit back-to-back home runs as part of a four-run third inning for the Falcons.

Senior Marian Guzik (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield Area) led the Elizabethtown offense by going 3-for-3 with an RBI, which came in the fifth inning when junior Ryan Allard (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) led off with a walk, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on Guzik's single to cut the Messiah lead to 4-1.

Rhoads (19-1) allowed just three hits and an unearned run to earn the win, while Elizabethtown first-year student Elaine Parr (Washington, DC/Academy of the Holy Cross) dropped to 5-12 after giving up 10 hits and four earned runs while striking out three.

In game two, the Blue Jays fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but got on the board in the second as first-year student Julie Sebastian (Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown) walked and moved to second when sophomore Kelsea Corrado (LaPlata, MD/LaPlata) singled.  First-year student Heather Peluso (Monkton, MD/Maryvale Prep) followed with a single to drive in Sebastian and cut the Falcon lead to 2-1.

Down 3-1 in the fourth inning after a home run by Rhoads, Peluso led off with a single and was safe at second on a fielder’s choice. Junior Ryan Allard (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) then singled to right field, and the throw in from the outfield was offline allowing Peluso to score and make the score 3-2.

Messiah added an insurance run in the seventh and Rhoads came on in the bottom of the inning to record her sixth save of the season. Megan Rice (12-1) allowed five hits in four innings to pick up the win for Messiah, while Sebastian (6-13) gave up seven hits and three earned runs for Elizabethtown.

Corrado and Peluso each went 2-for-4 for the Blue Jays along with junior Paige Tanner (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro), who finishes the season with 99 career hits. Allard went 2-for-2 with a walk as the Blue Jays banged out nine hits in the contest.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Arcadia University first baseman Jamie Bee went 6-for-8 with five runs batted in on the afternoon to lead the Knights to a sweep of their Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Elizabethtown College on Wednesday afternoon, by scores of 5-3 and 8-7.

Bee went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in for the Knights in the opener, and finished 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in game two as Arcadia nearly squandered an 8-2 lead before holding on for the win.

In game one, Arcadia jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Bee, and went ahead 4-0 in the third on an RBI single by Bee and a two-run double from Virginia Buechel.

The Blue Jays got on the board in the bottom of the third inning on a groundout, and added two runs in the fifth as
first-year student Julie Sebastian (Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown) hit a two-run home run, her fourth of the season, to bring Elizabethtown within 4-3.

Arcadia added an insurance run in the seventh as Bee picked up a two-out RBI single, and winning pitcher Kiersten Hughes (11-3) retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning to finish off the win.

Sebastian (6-12) allowed nine hits and five runs (four earned) in seven innings for the Blue Jays, while Hughes gave up five hits and five walks, but struck out six and stranded eight Elizabethtown runners on base.

Junior Paige Tanner (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the Blue Jays in game one, while Buechel went 2-for-4 with two doubles and Brittni Holland went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

In game two, the Knights (26-8 overall, 6-6 Commonwealth) took an 8-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Blue Jays (11-23 overall, 4-6 Commonwealth) scored twice in both the fifth and sixth innings to pull within 8-6, then scored once in the seventh and loaded the bases with one out before Arcadia was able to wriggle out of the jam to end the game.

After the teams traded runs in the first on an RBI double by Bee and an RBI single by Tanner, the Knights went ahead 3-1 in the second on a two-run single by Lindsey Henchinski and 5-1 in the third on a sacrifice fly by Kristen Burns and a throwing error.

Elizabethtown scored in the fourth on an error, but Arcadia tacked on three runs in the fifth on a solo home run by Bee and a two-run double by Burns to take an 8-2 lead. The Blue Jays scored twice in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI singles by Tanner and sophomore Kelsea Corrado (La Plata, MD/La Plata) to pull within 8-4.

In the sixth, the Blue Jays added two more runs on an error and a fielder's choice to trim the Knight lead to 8-6. The Blue Jays loaded the bases with none out in the bottom of the seventh, and scored on an infield single by sophomore Shannon Marsico (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) to narrow the Knight lead to a run. However, a force out at the plate and a fly ball to shallow right-center kept the Blue Jays from knotting the score.

Kellie Reese (6-2) survived five errors in the field and 14 hits allowed to pick up the win for Arcadia, as she gave up four unearned runs but stranded 10 runners on base.
First-year student Elaine Parr (Washington, DC/Academy of the Holy Cross) fell to 5-11 for the Blue Jays after giving up eight hits and four earned runs in seven innings.

Tanner went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in for the Blue Jays, while Marsico and junior Ryan Allard (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) each went 2-for-4 and Corrado finished 2-for-2 off the bench.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- For the second time this season, Elizabethtown College posted shutout wins in both ends of a doubleheader, defeating Lycoming College 8-0 and 3-0 in Commonwealth Conference softball action on Saturday afternoon.

first-year student Julie Sebastian (Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown) threw a three-hitter, while first-year student Elaine Parr (Washington DC/Academy of the Holy Cross) fired a six-hitter in game two to finish off the sweep.

The Blue Jays (11-21 overall, 4-4 Commonwealth) previously swept Franklin & Marshall College by scores of 5-0 and 1-0 on April 2. Each of Elizabethtown's last 11 doubleheaders have been swept by either the Blue Jays or their opponents.

In the seventh, junior
Sarah Church (Aston, PA/Sun Valley) walked with the bases loaded to give the Blue Jays a 4-0 lead, and Corrado followed with her first home run of the season to double the score.

Sebastian (6-11) allowed three hits and no walks while striking out three in her 14th complete game and second shutout in 16 starts. Hoover and Tanner each went 2-for-3 with an RBI as all nine starters in the Elizabethtown lineup had at least one hit.

Jessica Nabholz (4-8) took the loss for the Warriors, allowing 11 hits and eight earned runs while issuing five walks over seven innings.

In game two, the Blue Jays scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings while Parr (5-10) fired her second shutout of the season and struck out five.

A sacrifice fly by Tanner in the third inning gave the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead, and in the fourth a fielder's choice with the bases loaded extended the Elizabethtown lead to 2-0.

An RBI single off the bat of senior Amanda Gordon (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) in the fifth pushed the Blue Jays ahead 3-0, and the Blue Jay defense preserved the shutout by cutting down a Warrior runner at the plate for the first out of the seventh inning.

Shauna Starr (4-11) struck out six and allowed seven hits in taking the loss for Lycoming (10-20 overall, 2-8 Commonwealth).

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College swept a Commonwealth Conference softball doubleheader from Albright College on Saturday, winning by scores of 9-5 and 6-4 to extend its winning streak to six games in a row.

In game 1, the Blue Jays received a 4-for-4 perfomance from junior Sarah Church (Aston, PA/Sun Valley), a 3-for-4 effort by senior Marian Guzik (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield Area) and a pair of hits and three RBI from sophomore Kelsea Corrado (LaPlata, MD/LaPlata) to pick up the victory over the Lions.

Albright scored one in the top of the first inning for their only lead of the afternoon but the Blue Jays answered with three in the bottom half of the inning. Guzik singled, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on an error. Later in the inning, Corrado and senior Amanda Gordon (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Twp) had back-to-back singles to drive home one run each and give the Blue Jays a 3-1 lead.

Etown loaded the bases in the second inning and with two out, Church had a two-run single which scored senior Lauren Hoover (Reading, PA/Oley Valley) and junior Paige Tanner (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro). Corrado then ripped a two-run single to give Etown a 7-1 lead.

First-year student Julie Sebastian (Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown) finished off the win for the Blue Jays, striking out three batters in the game while the Blue Jay defense turned a pair of double plays.

In the second game, first-year student Elaine Parr (Washington DC/Academy of the Holy Cross) finished with eight strikeouts to earn the win, and Tanner went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBI to go with three runs scored for the Blue Jays (9-17 overall, 2-4 Commonwealth).

Elizabethtown scored two in the first on an RBI single by Tanner and an error, and added one in the third on an RBI single by Gordon. After Albright (3-23 overall, 0-8 Commonwealth) scored in the top of the fourth, Tanner slugged a two-run homer to left in the bottom of the inning to extend the Blue Jay lead to 5-1.

The Blue Jays added an insurance run in the fifth on an RBI single by junior Ryan Allard (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry), which proved important when the Lions scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning courtesy of a pair of Elizabethtown errors.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- First-year students Julie Sebastian (Broomall, PA/Marple-Newtown) and Elaine Parr (Washington, DC/Academy of the Holy Cross) each threw their first career shutouts as Elizabethtown College swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from visiting Franklin & Marshall College on Thursday, winning the opener 5-0 and taking game two 1-0.

It is the first time the Blue Jays (7-17 overall) have won both ends of a doubleheader by shutout since posting identical 5-0 victories at Alvernia University on March 14, 2002.

In game one, the Blue Jays scored two unearned runs in the third on a two-run triple by junior Paige Tanner (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro), and added three more runs in the sixth on RBI singles by junior Ryan Allard (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry), senior Marian Guzik (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield Area) and senior Lauren Hoover (Reading, PA/Oley Valley).

Sebastian (4-9), who threw her 10th complete game in 12 starts this season, scattered six hits and struck out two while not issuing a walk. Tanner finished 2-for-4 with two runs batted in for the Blue Jays, while Guzik went 2-for-2 with two walks, a run scored and an RBI.

Sara Damato (2-6) took the loss in game one for the Diplomats, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits while issuing four walks. Lauren Incorvaia went 2-for-3 for the Diplomats with a pair of singles.

In game two, Parr (3-8) gave up five hits and struck out five to earn the win, and the Blue Jays scored the game's only run in the bottom of the third inning as sophomore Shannon Marsico (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) singled with one out, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on a single by Hoover.

Elizabethtown escaped trouble in the fourth inning as the apparent tying run on a sacrifice fly was wiped out when the F&M runner left early, and again in the fifth as senior Amanda Gordon (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) threw out a Diplomat runner at third base who was attempting to advance on a fly ball.

The Blue Jays managed four hits off Diplomat starter Nicole Morano (5-4), who struck out three and issued three walks. Jessika Mancino went 2-for-2 and was hit by a pitch for the Diplomats, while Jessica Feldman doubled and tripled in three at-bats.
