HAVERFORD, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's track and field team competed at the Seamus McElligott Invitational on the campus of Haverford College on Saturday.

Sophomore Chris Heisey (Middletown, PA/Middletown) was the winner in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:29.21, with senior Jeremy Matula (Bath, PA/Northampton) taking second in 15:31.31 and sophomore Adam Derkacz (Huguenot, NY/Port Jervis) in eighth place at 16:25.62.

Senior Dylan Rulander (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) was third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.36, junior Wyatt Eaton (York, PA/Eastern York) took sixth in the 200 meters (23.71 seconds) and junior Kyle Grimm (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) came in seventh in the 400 meters (52.98 seconds).

In field events, first-year student Clayton Kaier (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) was fourth in the pole vault at 3.35 meters (10 feet, 11 3/4 inches) and Eaton finished eighth in the high jump at 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8 3/4 inches).

On Friday night, the distance medley relay team continued a tradition established in 2000 by competing at the prestigious Penn State National Invitational. The quartet of  Rulander, Grimm, senior James Munnelly (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) and first-year student Eric Reichert (Hershey, PA/Hershey) ran 10:21.45 which was the eighth-fastest time in program history.

"We've had some great DMR teams in the recent past at Elizabethtown. In 2005 and 2006, we had a whole stable of guys who at some point ran 1:50-1:52 in the 800m and 4:08-4:10 in the mile," noted head coach Chris Straub. "It was a fun time highlighted with our only sub-10:00 peformance up at Boston in 2005 and our All-American 6th place finish at the 2006 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. We're trying to climb our way back but it's going to take a few years."

Rulander opened with a 3:08 over the first 1,200 meters, before handing off to Grimm who was clocked at 51 seconds for his 400-meter segment. Munnelly covered his 800 meters in 2:00 flat, while Reichert finished up with a 4:20 over the last 1,600 meters.

"Dylan is certainly the core of our middle-distance group this year having run 1:52 in the open 800 meters last spring," commented Straub. "For the DMR to get back to nationals we need three guys capable of running 1:52 for 800m or 4:10 for the mile and get back down close to 10-flat."

The distance medley relay team will next step onto the track on Friday night, Feb. 7 at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the historic New York City Armory.
