Back to top 1/31/2009 Albright cools off Etown, 73-57 in women's basketball ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Albright 73, Elizabethtown 57 Bre Dillon added 13 points, six rebounds and eight assists for the Lions (12-7 overall, 4-3 Commonwealth), who won their third straight game by shooting 48.3 percent (28-for-59) from the field as a team. Courtney Kofeldt (Coatesville, PA/Holy Spirit, NJ) and Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) shared the team high in scoring for the Blue Jays (10-9 overall, 3-4 Commonwealth) with 16 points apiece, but Elizabethtown could hit just 25.3 percent (19-for-75) from the field in the contest. Albright methodically built its lead through the first half, taking a 33-23 advantage to halftime as McGinness led the Lions with eight points. Romano paced the Blue Jays with 12 points in the opening half, while Kofeldt added six on a pair of three-pointers. In the second half, the Blue Jays went six minutes without a field goal as the Lions moved on top by as many as 23 points at 60-37 following a three-pointer by Dillon with 7:41 left. Charlotte Ciccone also reached double figures for Albright as she scored 10 points, while Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) returned to action after missing seven games due to injury and tallied 11 points and six rebounds in 19 minutes. Albright finished with a 49-46 edge in rebounds, as Mallory Olsheski led the Lions with nine boards in 20 minutes off the bench. A-250 Back to top 1/29/2009 Quinn's career high not enough as Blue Jays fall to Dickinson, 80-72 ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Dickinson 80, Elizabethtown 72 Carole Dempsey led the Red Devils (9-8 overall) with 28 points while Alesha Sisco added 15 points and 13 rebounds for Dickinson, which finished 21-for-22 from the foul line as a team including 15-for-16 in the second half. Quinn went 12-for-23 from the field, including 4-for-6 from three-point range, to surpass her previous career high of 27 points set against Wesley College on Nov. 18, 2007. She also became the fifth player in program history to make 100 career three-pointers, reaching the milestone on her first trey of the night just over five minutes into the contest. Using just seven players, Dickinson took care on both ends of the court as they committed just nine turnovers on offense and 12 fouls on defense. Elizabethtown (10-8 overall) finished just 5-for-6 from the foul line as a team, with 16 fewer attempts than Dickinson. Elizabethtown led by seven points on three different occasions in the first half, as Quinn sank a trio of three-pointers in a two-minute span. The Blue Jays shot 50 percent (15-for-30) from the field in the first half and 6-for-11 from three-point range, but trailed 38-37 at intermission as the Red Devils matched the Blue Jays from the field at 50 percent (16-for-32) while going 6-for-6 at the stripe. Dempsey led all players with 17 points in the first half on 6-for-9 shooting from the field and 5-for-5 at the line, while Quinn had a team-high 13 points for Elizabethtown after going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and 5-for-9 overall. Dickinson did not trail in the second half, turning a one-point lead with 16:20 to go into a 10-point advantage at 64-54 with 10:06 to play. Elizabethtown trailed 70-60 with 7:27 to go, but scored nine striaight points to pull within 70-69 with 5:28 to go. However, the Blue Jays would go over 4 1/2 minutes without a field goal, and the Red Devils went 8-for-9 from the stripe to clinch the win despite scoring their last field goal with 4:36 to play. A-110 Back to top 1/26/2009 Women's basketball hits 14 threes in win over Immaculata ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Elizabethtown 82, Immaculata 66  ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Courtney Kofeldt (Coatesville, PA/Holy Spirit, NJ) set a program record with eight three-pointers and finished with a career-high 24 points as Elizabethtown College defeated Immaculata University 82-66 in non-conference women's basketball action on Monday night.Kofeldt went 8-for-9 from three-point range and sank her final seven attempts to break the single-game record of seven three-pointers set by Erin Walton against Lycoming College on Feb. 19, 2008. The Blue Jays drilled 14 threes as a team to equal the program single-game mark also set against Lycoming last season. Coupled with her 4-for-4 performance from beyond the arc in Saturday's 76-41 win at Arcadia University, Kofeldt has made 12 of her last 13 shots from three-point range. For the season, she has made a team-high 41 three-pointers and is shooting 43.6 percent. The victory was the 650th in the 39-year career of Elizabethtown head coach Yvonne Kauffman, ranking her third in Division III history behind Phil Kahler of St. John Fisher College (757 wins) and Mike Strong of the University of Scranton (700 wins). Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) added 21 points and nine rebounds for the Blue Jays (10-7 overall) while Stephanie Ellwood (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) posted career highs of 13 points and 13 rebounds and Kelly Sauerzopf (Bethlehem, PA/Saucon Valley) added 11 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Dominique Murray led the Mighty Macs (6-10 overall) with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Bridget Welz added 11 points and six assists and Chelsea McTigue posted 12 points and five boards off the bench. Both teams shot well from long range, as the Blue Jays finished 14-for-27 (51.9 percent) from beyond the three-point line while the Mighty Macs hit five in 10 attempts. Immaculata recovered from an early seven-point deficit to take a 25-23 lead on a basket by Murray with 2:28 left in the first half. However, three-pointers by Kofeldt and Ellwood sparked an 8-0 run to close the half, giving the Blue Jays a 31-25 lead at intermission. Elizabethtown shot just 10-for-29 overall from the field in the first half (34.5 percent), but went 6-for-12 from three-point range as Ellwood, Quinn and Kofeldt each sank a pair of threes. Ellwood led all players with nine points and six rebounds in the first half, while Welz paced the Mighty Macs with eight points. The Blue Jays scored 17 of the second half's first 23 points to take their largest lead to that point at 48-31 on a putback by Ellwood with 14:27 left. Elizabethtown's advantage swelled to 22 points at 69-47 following Kofeldt's seventh three-pointer with 6:57 to go, but the Mighty Macs went on a 13-2 run to pull within 71-60 with 3:57 remaining. From there, Elizabethtown put the game away as Sauerzopf connected for two layups, Quinn added a basket and Kofeldt hit her record-setting eighth three pointer to push the Blue Jay lead back to 80-63 with 2:23 remaining. Caitlin Sparks led Arcadia with 25 points and 12 rebounds, but the Knights shot just 22.2 percent (14-for-63) from the field and 10-for-21 (47.6 percent) from the foul line as a team. Back to top 1/21/2009 Women's basketball falls to Lebanon Valley, 72-51 ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Lebanon Valley 72, Elizabethtown 51 The Dutchmen (11-4 overall, 4-1 Commonwealth) placed five players in double figures and forced the Blue Jays (8-7 overall, 2-3 Commonwealth) into 24 turnovers to come away with the victory. Eryn Schultz added 15 points for Lebanon Valley, while Megan Bish and Suzie Noyes scored 11 points each off the Dutchmen bench. Andrea Hoover was the fifth player to reach double figures for Lebanon Valley, scoring 10 points to go with games highs of eight rebounds and seven assists.  Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) was the lone player to score in double figures for Elizabethtown, finishing with 11 points. A-200 Back to top 1/17/2009 Women's basketball comes from 15 down to defeat Widener, 72-65 ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Elizabethtown 72, Widener 65  ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) scored seven of her career-high 17 points during a game-ending 12-0 run as Elizabethtown College overcame a 15-point deficit to defeat Widener University 72-65 in Commonwealth Conference action at Thompson Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.Romano converted a three-point play with 1:58 remaining to tie the game at 65-65, then hit a clutch jumper with 38 seconds left to give the Blue Jays (8-6 overall, 2-2 Commonwealth) a 69-65 lead. She sealed the Elizabethtown victory with two foul shots with five seconds left as the Blue Jays held the Pride (10-6 overall, 1-2 Commonwealth) scoreless for the final 3:01. Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) led all players with 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Jays, while Ali Jury (Halifax, PA/Halifax) provided a key spark off the bench with nine points, seven rebounds and eight blocked shots in 22 minutes of action. Four players finished in double figures for Widener, led by 18 points and 10 rebounds from Casey Pritz before she fouled out with 1:58 left. Beth Dessart Mager added 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals for the Pride, which went just 11-for-41 (26.8 percent) from the field in the second half. Widener got off to a quick start, taking its largest lead of the day at 30-15 following a three-pointer by Barbara Fleming with 8:12 left. A-150 Back to top 1/14/2009 Women's basketball dropped by Albright, 72-65 ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Albright 72, Elizabethtown 65 Dillon scored 13 points in the second half for the Lions (9-6 overall, 1-2 Commonwealth), who broke a 54-54 tie by holding the Blue Jays (7-6 overall, 1-2 Commonwealth) without a field goal for nearly six minutes midway through the second half. In all, four players finished in double figures for Albright, as Charlotte Ciccone added 16 points, Annie McMahon tallied 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds and Jalene Walker netted 10 points for the Lions.  Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) and Kelly Sauerzopf (Bethlehem, PA/Saucon Valley) shared the scoring lead for the Blue Jays with 14 points apiece, while Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) tied her career high with 13 points for Elizabethtown, which shot 51.7 percent (15-for-29) from the field in the first half but just 33.3 percent (10-for-30) in the second half.Elizabethtown held its last lead of the game at 54-52 with 12:21 remaining, but Albright scored nine straight points to take a 61-54 lead with 9:16 to go on a layup by Dillon. The Blue Jays were able to cut their deficit to 63-60 with 5:15 remaining, but a three-point play by Ciccone with 4:18 left pushed the Lions ahead 66-60. Quinn went 4-for-8 from three-point range for the Blue Jays and pulled a team-high eight rebounds, while Sauerzopf hit 6-for-9 from the field to surpass her previous season high of eight points set against Moravian College on Nov. 19. Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) led the Blue Jays (7-5 overall, 1-1 Commonwealth) with eight points while Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, but Elizabethtown could muster just 27.5 percent (14-for-51) from the field as a team.The Falcons shot 57.1 percent from the field in the first half en route to a 38-27 lead, and scored 22 of the first 26 points of the second half to take their largest advantage of the day at 60-31 with 12:34 to go. Elizabethtown would hold Messiah without a point over the next 8 minutes, 24 seconds while scoring nine straight points to cut the Falcon lead to 60-40 with just over four minutes left. However, the Falcons closed the game on a 13-2 run while holding the Blue Jays without a field goal for the final 7:35. Joining Henninger in double figures for Messiah were Ashley Brooks with 12 points and Michele Schleich and Angie Rapchinski with 10 points each off the Falcon bench. Brooks also contributed four blocked shots and eight rebounds while Silalei Shani and Schleich each collected eight boards as well. A-250 Back to top 1/7/2009 Montague's 20-20 effort boosts Blue Jays over Lycoming, 69-59 ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Elizabethtown 69, Lycoming 59  WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) set career highs of 20 points and 20 rebounds as Elizabethtown College defeated Lycoming College 69-59 in the Commonwealth Conference women's basketball opener for both teams on Wednesday night at Lamade Gymnasium.Montague became the first Blue Jay to reach 20 points and 20 rebounds in the same game since Susie Young finished with 27 points and 23 boards against Juniata College in 1993. Young was also the last Etown player to grab 20 rebounds in a game, against the University of Scranton in the 1994 Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs. Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) also posted a double-double for the Blue Jays (7-4 overall, 1-0 Commonwealth) with a game-high 21 points along with 12 rebounds, helping snap the Warriors' seven-game winning streak. Elizabethtown finished with a 58-39 advantage in rebounding over Lycoming and held the Warriors (8-2 overall, 0-1 Commonwealth) to 21.1 percent (8-for-38) from the field in the second half and 31.9 percent (22-for-69) overall. Andrea Cooper and Allison Mock shared the team high in scoring for Lycoming with 13 points apiece, with Cooper adding nine boards and three assists in 37 minutes of action. Lycoming led for most of the game's first 12 minutes, but the Blue Jays outscored the Warriors 22-11 over the final eight minutes of the first half to take a 44-34 lead to halftime. Quinn led all players with 16 points and six rebounds in the first half while Montague added 12 points and six boards for Elizabethtown. Cooper led the Warriors in scoring in the opening 20 minutes by scoring all 13 of her points in the contest. Elizabethtown took its largest led of the evening at 58-41 on a three-pointer by Megan Strohman (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) with 12:04 to play. Lycoming was able to cut the deficit to 63-56 with 1:36 to go, but could get no closer as the Blue Jays hit four foul shots in the final 90 seconds. Strohman finished with nine points in 24 minutes off the bench for Elizabethtown, while Courtney Kofeldt (Coatesville, PA/Holy Spirit, NJ) tallied six points and matched her career high with eight rebounds.
