Back to top 2/25/2009 Women's lax picked second in MAC preseason poll FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wednesday, February 25, 2009 Elizabethtown Women's Lacrosse Picked Second in MAC Poll ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College has been picked to finish second in the Middle Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse preseason coaches poll, the conference office announced Wednesday. The Blue Jays finished 11-5 overall and in second place in the MAC with a 7-1 record in 2008, losing 15-14 to top-seeded FDU-Florham in the championship game. Elizabethtown returns 11 of their 12 starters, including seven All-MAC performers, to this year's lineup. Senior attack Katie Foley is the Blue Jays' top returning scorer, having been named first-team All-MAC and second-team All-Region after she netted a school-record 70 goals to go with 19 assists for 89 points in 2008. She ranks second in program history with 179 goals and 237 points in her career. Junior midfielder Stephanie Kreis was also a first-team All-MAC and second-team All-Region choice after she finished with 38 goals and a team-high 36 ground balls last season. In goal, senior Jenn Hawkins joined Foley and Kreis as a first-team All-Conference and second-team All-Region selection as she posted a .551 save percentage and a 9.15 goals against average last year. FDU-Florham received eight of the 12 first-place votes in the poll for a total of 130 points, with Elizabethtown taking the other four first-place votes and amassing 125 points. Messiah College (107 points), Lycoming College (101 points) and MAC newcomer Eastern University (100 points) round out the top five. The Blue Jays, who opened their 2009 season with an 18-3 win over York College on Saturday afternoon, will begin their 11-game MAC schedule by hosting Eastern on Saturday, March 14. Back to top 2/21/2009 Women's lax cruises past York in season opener ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S LACROSSE Elizabethtown 18, York 3 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Senior Anna Ford (Salisbury, MD/Homeschooled) set a career high with six goals and matched her career best with seven points as Elizabethtown College defeated York College 18-3 in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Wolf Field. Senior Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) added three goals while junior Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson) and senior Kelsea Kozak (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley) each posted a goal and three assists for the Blue Jays (1-0 overall), who led 13-2 at halftime and finished with a 39-14 advantage in shots over the Spartans (0-1 overall). Ford scored three goals in each half, and tallied four goals during a 10-0 Blue Jay run that turned a 7-2 first-half lead into a 17-2 advantage with 22:18 remaining in the second half. Scoring two goals each for the Blue Jays were juniors Stephanie Kreis (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll School) and Katie Caprinolo (Jarrettsville, MD/North Harford) along with sophomore Sarah Cullinan (West Chester, PA/East), while sophomore Maria DeMatteo (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) picked up a goal and an assist. Megan Foy, Kelly Vrana and Megan Bell each scored for York, while Bell finished with a game-high six draw controls. Senior Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) played the first half in goal for the Blue Jays and made six saves, with junior Becca Watkins (Herndon, VA/Westfield) making four stops in the second half.
