Back to top 3/30/2009 Malick named MAC men's lacrosse Defender of the Week FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Monday, March 30, 2009 Hunter Malick Named MAC Men's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College sophomore goalkeeper Hunter Malick (Center Valley, PA/Moravian Academy) has been named the Middle Atlantic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the week ending March 29, the conference office announced Monday. Malick made 25 total saves as the Blue Jays posted conference wins over DeSales University (8-5) and Manhattanville College (9-8). He finished with 14 saves and allowed just two second-half goals in the win over DeSales, and came up with 11 saves against Manhattanville including a stop in the final minute to preserve the victory.Malick leads the MAC in goals against average (5.89) and has a .586 save percentage for the Blue Jays (5-2 overall, 2-2 MAC), who host Gwynedd-Mercy College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Back to top 3/28/2009 Men's lax edges Manhattanville, 9-8 ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S LACROSSE Elizabethtown 9, Manhattanville 8 Sophomore Greg Kenneally (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) finished with two goals and four assists while McCafferty and junior Aaron Weber (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) added three goals apiece for the Blue Jays (5-2 overall, 2-2 MAC), who saw a 4-1 halftime lead slip away as the Valiants (3-5 overall, 2-1 MAC) tied the game at 7-7 with 7:14 left and again at 8-8 with 3:52 to play. Mike Strauss paced Manhattanville with three goals while Joey Hasbrouck had a goal and three assists and Charlie Ogalin scored twice for the Valiants, whose eight goals were a season high. Elizabethtown led 6-5 entering the final quarter, and Weber scored just 1:07 into the period to give the Blue Jays a 7-5 lead. However, Andrew McMillan scored a man-up goal with 9:09 left and assisted on Strauss' tying goal to knot the game at 7-7 with 7:14 to play. Weber scored off an assist by Kenneally with the man advantage with 3:57 remaining to give Elizabethtown an 8-7 lead, but the advantage lasted just five seconds as McMillan won the faceoff and passed downfield to Ogalin, who scored to even the game at 8-8. Manhattanville had a chance to tie the score in the last minute of the game, but sophomore Hunter Malick (Center Valley, PA/Moravian Academy) made his 11th and final save of the day on a shot by McMillan, and the Blue Jays ran out the clock. McCafferty scored the only goal of the first quarter to give Elizabethtown a 1-0 lead, but Manhattanville evened the game at 1-1 just 46 seconds into the second quarter on a goal by Vinny Menzenski. Kenneally scored twice in a 75-second span and Weber added a goal 50 seconds later as the Blue Jays took a 4-1 lead with 4:53 left in the second quarter. Strauss and Hasbrouck scored early in the third quarter to trim the Blue Jay lead to 4-3 with 10:36 left, but McCafferty answered just 56 seconds later to restore Elizabethtown's two-goal advantage. trauss scored with the man up with 4:24 left in the third to bring the Valiants within 5-4, only to see the Blue Jays respond 36 seconds later on a goal from sophomore Brian Schaaf (West Chester, PA/East). Ogalin closed the third-period barrage 35 seconds after Schaaf's goal to send the Valiants to the fourth quarter down 6-5. Elizabethtown finished with the advantage in shots (35-33) and ground balls (35-28) while Manhattanville won 10 of the game's 18 faceoffs. Both teams finished 2-for-6 with the extra man, while the Valiants committed 29 turnovers to 25 by the Blue Jays. Junior Phil Robinson (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) led the Blue Jays with five ground balls while junior Chris Day (Thornton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and sophomore Brent Campbell (Baltimore, MD/Mt. Back to top 3/25/2009 Men's lacrosse shuts down DeSales in 8-5 win ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S LACROSSE Elizabethtown 8, DeSales 5 Junior Aaron Weber (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) added a goal and two assists for the Blue Jays (4-2 overall, 1-2 MAC), who scored three times in a span of just under four minutes to open the third quarter and turn a 4-3 lead into a 7-4 advantage. Joshua Van Hart led the Bulldogs (2-5 overall, 2-1 MAC) with a pair of goals while Matthew Brancaccio and Andrew Ervin added single goals for DeSales, which also added an own goal when the Blue Jay defense accidently played the ball into its net. Elizabethtown opened the scoring with 8:56 left in the first half on a goal by junior Kyle Huckle (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca), but Van Hart knotted the contest just over a minute later. First-year student Evan Cobb (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) tallied a man-up goal with 2:26 left in the first quarter to give Elizabethtown a 2-1 lead, but the Bulldogs tied it with 58 seconds left on the own goal. In the second quarter, Staulters and junior Jon Day (Thornton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) scored just under two minutes apart to push the Blue Jays ahead 4-2, and Ervin responded for DeSales with 8:26 left in the quarter to cut the deficit to 4-3, a margin that held through halftime. Staulters fired home his second goal of the game just 56 seconds into the third quarter to extend the Elizabethtown lead to 5-3, only to see Brancaccio score just 50 seconds later to trim the margin to 5-4. Weber and sophomore Greg Kenneally (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) scored twice in the next three minutes to widen the Blue Jay lead to 7-4 with 10:10 left in the third quarter, and the teams did not score again until Van Hart put home his second of the game with 7:16 left in the fourth to pull the Bulldogs within 7-5. Senior Ryan McCafferty (Orlando, FL/Boone) closed the scoring with 4:14 left with a man-up goal off a feed by Weber, his 13th goal of the season. Back to top 3/22/2009 Men's lax drops 15-6 decision to FDU ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S LACROSSE FDU-Florham 15, Elizabethtown 6 MADISON, N.J. --- Kevin Shadiack scored a game-high six goals and added three assists to pace FDU-Florham to a 15-6 victory over Elizabethtown College in Middle Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon. Shadiack scored at least once in each quarter as the Devils (4-3 overall, 2-0 MAC) netted the game's first seven goals and held a 9-3 advantage at halftime over the Blue Jays (3-2 overall, 0-2 MAC). Senior Ryan McCafferty (Orlando, FL/Boone), junior Aaron Weber (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) and first-year student Evan Cobb (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) scored two goals each for the Blue Jays, while Weber, sophomore Greg Kenneally (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and sophomore Brian Schaaf (West Chester, PA/East) posted assists for Elizabethtown. FDU needed just 12 seconds to get on the scoreboard as Rob Novack scored the game's opening goal, and the Devils went on to build a 6-0 lead after one quarter. Back to top 3/18/2009 Men's lacrosse posts 14-2 win at Marywood ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S LACROSSE Elizabethtown 14, Marywood 2 SCRANTON, Pa. --- A run of 11 consecutive goals snapped a 1-1 tie and boosted Elizabethtown College to a 14-2 victory over Marywood University in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Ryan McCafferty (Orlando, FL/Boone) scored four consecutive goals to give the Blue Jays (3-1 overall) an 8-1 lead at halftime, and finished with five goals on the afternoon as Elizabethtown held a dominating 41-9 edge in shots over the Pacers (2-3 overall). Junior Aaron Weber (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) added four goals and moved into second place on the school career point list with 120, trailing only the 167 points accumulated by Frankie Puzzangara from 2004 to 2007. With the score tied 1-1 after the first quarter, Weber scored three goals in a span of 3 minutes, 23 seconds to give Elizabethtown a 4-1 lead with 11:02 left in the second quarter. McCafferty then scored the game's next four goals, capped off with a tally with one second left in the half that gave the Blue Jays an 8-1 advantage. Third-quarter goals from junior Keith Staulters (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa), junior Kyle Huckle (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca), junior Jon Day (Thornton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and sophomore Shawn Corcoran (Hershey, PA/Hershey) gave Elizabethtown a 12-1 lead entering the fourth quarter, and Corcoran and McCafferty tallied in the fourth quarter to close the scoring. Back to top 3/14/2009 Men's lacrosse defeated 7-5 by Widener ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S LACROSSE Widener 7, Elizabethtown 5 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- A five-goal run from the first to the third quarters helped Widener University to a 7-5 victory over Elizabethtown College in Middle Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Wolf Field. Justin Upp and Johnny Casey each scored a pair of goals for the Pride (1-4 overall, 1-0 MAC), who turned a 2-1 deficit late in the first quarter into a 6-2 lead in the opening minute of the third quarter. Junior Keith Staulters (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) led the Blue Jays (2-1 overall, 0-1 MAC) with three goals, as Elizabethtown was able to pull within 6-5 midway through the fourth quarter before Casey scored an insurance goal with 2:22 remaining. Staulters scored twice in the first 11 minutes to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead, but Upp netted two goals in the final three minutes of the quarter to give Widener a 3-2 lead. Casey and J.J. Hoeffler scored second-quarter goals to boost the Pride lead to 5-2 at intermission, and Kevin McLemore scored 26 seconds into the third quarter to extend Widener's advantage to 6-2. Junior Aaron Weber (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) brought the Blue Jays within 6-3 on a goal with 5:07 left in the third quarter, then senior Ryan McCafferty (Orlando, FL/Boone) tallied just 56 seconds into the fourth period to cut the Pride lead to 6-4. Sophomore Greg Kenneally (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) added three goals and two assists for the Blue Jays (2-0 overall), who led 6-0 after one quarter and 12-1 after three quarters and finished with a 50-19 edge in shots over the Mighty Macs (0-3 overall). Staulters scored three times in the first quarter and added a man-up goal late in the second quarter, and assisted on two goals by Kenneally in just over a minute late in the second quarter to help the Blue Jays build a 10-1 lead at halftime. Score by period 1 2 3 4 Tot Back to top 3/3/2009 Men's lacrosse game at Guilford canceled FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tuesday, March 3, 2009 Men's Lacrosse Game at Guilford Canceled ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Wednesday's non-conference men's lacrosse game between Elizabethtown College and host Guilford College has been canceled due to the snowstorm that affected the Southeastern United States. The Blue Jays have returned from North Carolina and will prepare for their home opener against Moravian College on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. on Wolf Field. |
