Men's track opens outdoor schedule at W&L/VMI Carnival

Elizabethtown at W&L/VMI Carnival

LEXINGTON, Va. --- The Elizabethtown College men's track & field team opened their 2009 outdoor schedule at the two-day Washington & Lee/Virginia Military Institute Carnival, which concluded Saturday.

Junior Wyatt Eaton (York, PA/Eastern York) turned in several top performances for the Blue Jays, finishing sixth in the 400 meters with the fourth-best time in school history (50.20 seconds), taking seventh in the long jump at 20 feet, 10 1/2 inches (sixth-best in program history) and placing ninth in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 10 inches to tie for the seventh-best jump in school history.

Senior Dylan Rulander (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) was second in the 1,500 meters and recorded the fourth-best time in program history at 3:56.95, while sophomore Chris Heisey (Middletown, PA/Middletown) took ninth in the 5,000 meters (15:21.81) to move into 10th place on the program list.

The 4x800-meter relay team of senior James Munnelly (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East), first-year student Casey McGarvey (Bozrah, CT/Norwich Free Academy), Rulander and first-year student Mark Weber (Tinton Falls, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) finished second with a time of 7:54.61, the third-best time in program history. Rulander ran a split of 1:52.9 in the third leg while Weber finished in 1:59.6.

In the 10,000 meters, senior Scott Derkacz (Huguenot, NY/Port Jervis) was third in 33:08.02 followed by sophomore Rich Greco (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) in fifth place at 33:29.04.

Senior Phil Alder (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) finished fourth in the decathlon with a total of 5169 points, and senior Jason Yurchak (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) was sixth in the pole vault after clearing 12 feet, 2 3/4 inches.

Elizabethtown at Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet

BLACKSBURG, Va. --- Members of the Elizabethtown College men's indoor track and field team competed at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet on Saturday, turning in several top program performances on the day.

Junior Wyatt Eaton (York, PA/Eastern York) tied for the second-best mark in school history in the 200 meters with a time of 22.82 seconds, and recorded the fourth-fastest time in the 400 meters at 51.27 seconds.

Senior Dylan Rulander (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) finished fourth in the 800 meters and narrowly missed an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time on a banked track as he crossed the line in 1:54.30, the third-best mark in school history.

Senior Jeremy Matula (Bath, PA/Northampton) was sixth in the 3,000 meters and posted the fifth-best time in school history at 8:53.96, and first-year student Evan DeArmitt (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) took 10th in the mile with a time of 4:33.83.
