Back to top 4/30/2009 Men's tennis places three on All-Commonwealth team FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Thursday, April 30, 2009 Elizabethtown Places Three on All-Commonwealth Men's Tennis Team Arrea was also named first-team All-Conference, and was joined on the first team by junior Brok Walker (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) and on the second team by senior Jeff Kirkhoff (Duncannon, PA/Susquenita). Arrea is the first Blue Jay to be named Rookie of the Year since Thomas Nyst in 2005, while Walker is a repeat first-team selection. Kirkhoff is a second-team pick after being named to the first team last season. Arrea has a 16-3 overall record in number-one singles, including a 14-1 mark in dual matches, and has compiled a 13-6 record in doubles playing with three different partners. He shares the Player of the Year award with Jansen Hein of Messiah College. Walker has a 14-4 overall record at number-two singles for the Blue Jays, with a 12-2 record in dual matches, and is 12-8 at number-two doubles. In Three seasons, Walker has a 45-21 singles record for the Blue Jays. Kirkhoff has compiled an 11-5 overall record at number-three singles, and is 10-4 in dual matches. Kirkhoff is 11-6 in doubles while playing primarily at flight three. The Blue Jays (12-4 overall) finished as runner-up to Lebanon Valley College in the Commonwealth Conference team tournament, and will compete at the Middle Atlantic Conference individual championships in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday and Sunday. Back to top 4/28/2009 Men's tennis downed by Muhlenberg, 6-3 ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S TENNIS Muhlenberg 6, Elizabethtown 3 ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- Muhlenberg College defeated Elizabethtown College 6-3 in non-conference men's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon, in the final tuneup before this weekend's Middle Atlantic Conference individual championships for the Blue Jays (12-4 overall).Picking up singles wins for the Blue Jays were first-year student Manrique Arrea (San Jose, Costa Rica/Lincoln School) with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over John Osborne at flight one, and junior Brok Walker (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) who defeated Zach Adler 6-4, 0-6 (10-8) at flight two. With the victory, Arrea moved into fifth place on the Elizabethtown single-season win list with 16 against just three losses. Including among his 16 victories is a sparkling 14-1 mark in dual matches. Lebanon Valley led 2-1 after doubles, with first-year student Manrique Arrea (San Jose, Costa Rica/Lincoln School) and sophomore Bryan Metz (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) accounting for Elizabethtown's point with an 8-2 win over Jon Gingrich and Jared Zeigler at flight one. The Blue Jays jumped to a 3-2 lead as junior Brok Walker (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) defeated Zeigler 6-3, 6-2 at flight two and senior Jeff Kirkhoff (Duncannon, PA/Susquenita) downed Tom Neckelmann 6-1, 6-1 at flight three. Walker's win was his 44th career singles victory, breaking the school record of 43 wins set by Mike Bailey from 1986-89. Lebanon Valley tied the match at 3-3 with a win at flight four, but Arrea put Elizabethtown back on top 4-3 with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at flight one over Matt Grodzinski. Kirkhoff won four matches in four days at number-three singles as the Blue Jays clinched the top seed in next weekend's Commonwealth Conference team tournament. His three-set victory at Messiah College on Saturday gave the Blue Jays a 5-4 win and first place in the conference. In addition to his four singles wins, Kirkhoff teamed with sophomore Brian Osborn for three doubles victories and junior Brok Walker for one doubles win. In singles action, first-year student Manrique Arrea (San Jose, Costa Rica/Lincoln School) defeated Matt Grodzinski 6-2, 6-4 at flight one, junior Brok Walker (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at flight two against Jared Zeigler, and senior Jeff Kirkhoff (Duncannon, PA/Susquenita) picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory at flight three over Tom Neckelmann.
