ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Meghan Doolittle scored the winning goal with 37 seconds remaining as Messiah College upset 16th-ranked Elizabethtown College 6-5 in the Middle Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse championship game on Saturday afternoon.

Doolittle's winning tally, her second goal of the game, came just nine seconds after the Blue Jays (16-3 overall) tied the game at 5-5 on a goal from senior Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross).

With the win, the Falcons (14-4 overall) claim the second MAC title in program history and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament, while the Blue Jays will await a potential at-large bid when the brackets are released on Sunday night.

Doolittle finished with two goals and two assists while Megan Bovenzi had two goal and an assist for the Falcons, who trailed 3-1 after 18 minutes but fought back to tie the game at 3-3 at halftime on goals by Doolittle and Rachel Dirksen.

Foley paced the Blue Jays with two goals and an assist, with single goals coming from senior Anna Ford (Salisbury, MD/Homeschooled), sophomore Maria DeMatteo (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) and sophomore Sarah Cullinan (West Chester, PA/West Chester East).

The Falcons took advantage of frequent whistles against the Blue Jays, as Elizabethtown was called for 38 fouls compared to just 17 by Messiah.

Elizabethtown took a 1-0 lead just 2:22 into the contest on a goal by Ford, and went ahead 2-0 as Foley scored with 19:23 left in the first half. Jackie Dando cut the Blue Jay lead to 2-1 with 12:45 left in the half, but DeMatteo scored just 21 seconds later to restore Elizabethtown's two-goal advantage.

Doolittle and Dirksen scored just 39 seconds apart to knot the game at 3-3 with 6:11 to play in the first half, and the game remained even until Cullinan scored on a free-position shot with 24:54 remaining to give the Blue Jays their final lead of the day at 4-3.

Bovenzi tied the game with 15:10 left off an assist by Doolittle, and the pair hooked up again with 3:21 to play as Messiah went on top 5-4. Foley fought through the Messiah defense to score the tying goal with 46 seconds left, but Doolittle scored the game-winner just nine seconds later.

Elizabethtown finished with a 26-19 advantage in shots and collected 16 ground balls, led by four from Cullinan who also had four caused turnovers. Bovenzi and Betsy Tyson shared the team lead with three ground balls for Messiah.
