Back to top 7/29/2009 Brandy Michael named head field hockey coach FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wednesday, July 29, 2009 Elizabethtown Names Brandy Michael Head Field Hockey Coach Michael, a 2004 graduate of Elizabethtown, served as an assistant coach for the previous three seasons under Sharon Sweger, who resigned in May after leading the Blue Jays to a 61-39 record in five years as head coach. "Brandy has been an integral part of the Blue Jay field hockey program in recent years as both a student-athlete and an assistant coach, and I am confident that she will be just as successful as the team's head coach," said Latimore. A native of nearby Grantville, Pa., the former Brandy Espenshade was an All-Commonwealth Conference and All-South Atlantic Region performer as a member of the Blue Jay field hockey squad from 1999 to 2002. She led the Blue Jays with 14 goals as a senior, and was named second-team All-Region while representing Elizabethtown in the NFHCA North/South Senior All-Star Game. For her career, Michael scored 32 goals and 13 assists for 77 points while leading the Blue Jays to the conference playoffs in each of her final three seasons. She was a four-year letterwinner and was a team captain and team Most Valuable Player as a senior. As a player at Lower Dauphin High School, Michael was a member of the Falcons' 1998 state championship team. In addition to her coaching experience at Elizabethtown, Michael was a head coach in the US Field Hockey Association Futures program and served as an assistant coach at Northern York High School. Elizabethtown finished 17-4 overall in 2008 and ranked 13th in the final National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III poll. Over the last four years, the Blue Jays have gone 57-23 and qualified for the Commonwealth Conference playoffs in each season, while also advancing to second round of the 2006 NCAA Division III tournament. Back to top 7/1/2009 Elizabethtown College to Host 2010 NCAA Division III Golf Championships FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Thursday, July 1, 2009 Elizabethtown to Host 2010 NCAA Division III Golf Championships The four-day event will be held May 11-14, 2010 on the courses of the Hershey Golf Collection. The first two rounds will be played on the East Course at Hershey Country Club and at Hershey Links, and Hershey Links will provide a stern test for the final two rounds. The Division III Men’s Golf Championship will feature 36 collegiate teams from across the country, along with the top five individuals not participating with their teams. There will be a total of 185 competitors. "We are thrilled that the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Committee has selected Elizabethtown College to host the 2010 championships,” said Nancy Latimore, Elizabethtown College’s director of athletics. “We are confident that, working with the NCAA and Hershey Golf Collection, we will provide the participating student-athletes and coaches with a first-class and memorable experience." “We are excited to be partnering with Elizabethtown College to host this national event,” said Ned Graff, director of golf operations for Hershey Golf Collection. “Hershey has a great tradition of national golf events – dating back to the 1940 PGA Championship that was played on our historic West Course. Bringing an NCAA championship event to our courses is both a great opportunity and a great honor. The destination of Hershey is an ideal venue for players, families, and NCAA staff and officials to enjoy a memorable championship week.” Elizabethtown College participated in the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship in both 2008 and 2009, earning an automatic bid after winning the Commonwealth Conference tournament championship in both years. The Elizabethtown Blue Jays have had a long relationship with the Hershey Golf Collection, hosting collegiate tournaments in the fall and spring at both the East Course at Hershey Country Club and Hershey Links. Hershey and Elizabethtown College are just three hours from New York City, two hours from Philadelphia and Washington, and 90 minutes from Baltimore.
