Six Alumni Inducted into Ira R. Herr Athletic Hall of Fame

meet’s final day, the Blue Jays featured one winner on the track, one in the jumps and one in the throws. NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships qualifier Traci Tempone ’14 won the 5,000 meters. Tempone, along with Eileen Cody ’15, qualified for nationals in the 10,000 meters. Sophomore Jenna Niedermayer ’14 took gold in the triple jump and senior Sarah DeGeorge ’11 won the hammer throw.

E lizabethtown College and the Blue Jay Athletics Association proudly inducted its 36th class of honorees into the Ira R. Herr Athletic Hall of Fame at a celebratory dinner in May. This special group of student-athletes helped mold the College’s athletic program into what it is today. Inductees for the Class of 2011 were Damian E. Burnside ’86, a member of the basketball team from York, Pa.; Scott W. Ravert ’89, a member of the soccer team from Phoenix, Ariz.; Marci B. Grossman ’93, a member of the basketball team from Lansdale, Pa.; Gary L. Yeager ’95, a member of the baseball team from Reading, Pa.; Bryan R. Zeamer ’95, a member of the wrestling team from Manheim, Pa.; and Heidi Balmer Dell’Oso ’96, a member of the field hockey team from Wilmington, Del.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony is part of the annual Blue Jay Athletics Alumni Reunion, held on Saturday, May 14, on the Elizabethtown campus.

The Blue Jay Athletic Association also honored the family of the late Coach D. Kenneth Ober with the Joseph A. Whitmore Outstanding Service to Student Athletes Award. Notably, Linda Eshelman Hopple ’63 of Lancaster, Pa., was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award. The evening included a special presentation celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1961 undefeated, un-scored upon field hockey team.
