• Center for the Study of Bioterrorism-- From the Saint Louis University's School of Public Health, much information on diseases that could be used in bioterrorism, including links to online articles from other sites.

• Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-- An agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which covers some key world health topics. See their Travelers' Health section for information and advice on health conditions around the world.

• European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies-- National and IGO partnership to support and promote "evidence-based health policy-making through comprehensive and rigorous analysis of the dynamics of health systems in Europe and by engaging directly with policy-makers." Posts country information and profiles, research products, newsletters, and more.

• Global Health-- Very useful site from the Office of Global Health Affairs, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, with information and analysis about global health issues, national profiles, speeches, and pointers to fact sheets, statistics, reports, and guides to similar information from other U.S. and international sources.

• Global Health Facts-- "A project of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, provides free, up-to-date and easy-to-access data by country on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other key health and socio-economic indicators. The data are displayed in tables, charts, and color-coded maps and can be downloaded for custom analyses."

• Global Health Reporting-- "A project developed and operated by the Kaiser Family Foundation with major support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to provide journalists and others -- including researchers, policymakers and nongovernmental organizations -- with the latest news and information about HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria worldwide."

• Globalization and Health-- "Open Access, peer-reviewed, online journal that provides a platform for research, knowledge sharing and debate on the topic of globalization and its effects on health, both positive and negative." Published by BioMed Central and understandable to a general educated audience.

• Health Map-- Global disease alert map that "brings together disparate data sources to achieve a unified and comprehensive view of the current global state of infectious diseases and their effect on human and animal health... the data is aggregated by disease and displayed by location for user-friendly access to the original alert... provides a jumping-off point for real-time information on emerging infectious diseases and has particular interest for public health officials and international travelers."

• Health, Nutrition & Population-- From the World Bank, a rich practical resource to "assist clients to improve health, nutrition, and population outcomes of poor people and protect people from the impoverishing effects of illness, malnutrition, and high fertility." Posts news, journals, reports, program information, country data, and more.

• Health Policy Monitor-- Website of the International Network Health Policy and Reform, "initiated and set up in 2002. It currently brings together health policy experts from 20 industrialized countries...  selected countries from Central Europe, all EU-member states, have also joined the network." Posts statistics, country facts, and reports about healthcare policy reforms in the industrial countries.

• Inter-American Development Bank-- The health section of the website of this international organization posts excellent information and analysis on public health matters in Latin America.

• Journal of Global Health Governance-- From the Center for Global Health Studies of the Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations, Seton Hall University, "an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal that provides a platform for academics and practitioners to explore global health issues and their implications to governance and security at national and international levels."

• Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders)-- "International humanitarian aid organisation that provides emergency medical assistance to populations in danger in more than 80 countries." Site posts information on the work of MSF and on public health issues in developing countries. Note especially the MSF site about its Campaign for Access to Essential Medicines.

• Pan American Health Organization-- Provides much information and databases on health in the Americas, such as Basic Country Health Profiles for the Americas.

• UNAIDS-- From the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, online information and reports on HIV/AIDS worldwide.

• United Nations Population Fund-- "World's largest international source of funding for population and reproductive health programmes." This U.N. site provides much information, news, and analysis on world population and health issues, including the excellent annual State of World Population report, free online.

• World Health News-- From the Center for Health Communication of the Harvard School of Public Health, a report on major public health news worldwide, with archives and a free e-mail subscription option.

• World Health Organization-- Very wide range of information from this U.N.-related body. Note especially the Library, the Bulletin of the WHO, and the annual World Health Reports. The WHO Statistical Information System is "the guide to health and health-related epidemiological and statistical information available from the World Health Organization." The Media Centre provides the latest information. Disease Outbreak News offers the latest news and reports on communicable disease surveillance and response around the world. The International Travel and Health report "provides information on the main health risks for travellers."

• WWW Virtual Library: Public Health-- This key directory from the School of Public Health and Community Medicine of the University of New South Wales is categorized by geographical location and selected topics.
