Fine and Performing Arts

Elizabethtown College is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The Division of Fine and Performing Arts consists of three departments: Music, Theatre & Dance, and Fine Arts. Each of our departments has a website offering information specific to its discipline:

Students at Elizabethtown College enjoy the opportunity to perform in five major ensembles, engage multiple theatrical and dance productions, and present their art work in three separate gallery spaces. In addition, we pride ourselves on personal attention each student receives throughout his or her studies whether as a major, a minor, or a student seeking to continue their artistic training while pursuing another area of academic inquiry.

Elizabethtown College is also a vibrant part of the regional arts and culture scene, offering a variety of music, theatre and dance performances that are open to the public, usually free of charge. In addition to courses in each of these areas, it offers courses in Dance and has a Preparatory Department of Music that offers instruction to pre-college students, adults and College students who desire to take instruction without credit.

Arts Administration

Arts administration minor combines fine and performing arts with business knowledge

New interdisciplinary program added to curriculum

Elizabethtown College now has a 24-credit arts administration minor beginning in fall 2018. The minor, which blends programs from the departments of Business and Fine and Performing Arts, consists of a cohesive set of courses, an internship and a capstone project. When the program has been completed, said Division of Fine and Performing Arts Chair and Professor of Music James Haines, students will be able to appreciate the role of fine and performing arts in society, perform a risk-management analysis, develop a business plan and solve managerial problems. They will be able to apply business principles to arts management. The minor can be paired with majors in business, fine and performing arts, communications and English professional writing, Haines said.

“It is a wonderful combination of Etown at its best, finding a connection between the liberal arts disciplines and the professional programs.”
