The Department of Englishoffers an education that stresses both the knowledge and effective use oflanguage and an understanding and appreciation of literature. Excellence in both writing and literarystudies is the fundamental aim of the Core Program and of the rigorous andcomprehensive concentrations that prepare students for graduate training in English or professions such as law andmedicine, for professional writing careers in a variety of fields, or forteaching at the secondary level of education.
