  • American Music and the First World War, Tuesday, October 24, 7:00pm: The year 1917 witnessed major changes in American musical culture. The German and Austrian expatriates who had dominated concert music in recent decades faced violent opposition when they were declared enemy aliens. The nervous energy of the time also made Americans receptive to the new genre of jazz, which first became a national craze in this year. Dr. Douglas Bomberger will discuss his research on this fascinating time in music history.
