The Communications Department has industry-standard audio, video and image editing facilities.

Audio Editing
The Elizabethtown College Communications Department audio facilities include production and broadcast venues. These include: four studios, classroom space, and a business office.
  • Studio A (Master Control) is an audio facility with stereo broadcast equipment, including Radio System RS12 (a 12 channel stereo broadcast board), professional CD players, a Minidisk player/recorder, Digicart system for digital production, and Power Mac computer.
  • Studio B is a production facility for student projects. It includes a Digicart machine, two professional CD players, a MiniDisk player/recorder, two cassette recorders and a Power Mac station with digital editing software.
  • Studio C is a brand new professional recording studio. It houses stereo production facilities with a Mackie 24-Track Digital HDR-96 recorder, a Yamaha 01V/96 digital mixer, a Yamaha 990 Professional Stereo Effects Processor, and a Power Mac computer station with digital editing software. This studio also includes a Digicart system, two professional CD players and a Mini-Disk Player/Recorder.
  • The Talk Studio is the fourth studio and is used for the production of news, interviews, and talk shows.The business office space serves as the planning and operational area for the 11-member student staff of the student-run radio station, WWEC-FM. This space is furnished as a business office and includes two Macintosh computer stations and laser printer used in the production of student media work.

All computer stations in the audio production facilities are tied to the college's network and include complete network access.


Video Editing
The Elizabethtown College Department of Communications video facilities include a fully functional production studio, control room, tape storage room, and editing suites.

The control room features video equipment including a 14 source production switcher, a Video Toaster station for graphics, titles and effects, a Mackie CR-1604 16 channel mic/line mixer, Super VHS recording and playback capabilities, Mini DV and DVC recording, and LCD monitors. The studio houses three CCD video cameras, 12 microphone inputs, a teleprompter system, and a complete studio lighting set-up. Separate editing facilities are operational for Mini DV, DVC, VHS and S-VHS editing.The video production studio, control room and editing facilities are utilized in video production classes, and in the creation of ECTV programming, but are also available for use by students in these programs during open lab hours. Students may sign out studio or editing time, and also have portable camera equipment available for their use.

ECTV uses remote production equipment for out of studio productions. The remote equipment includes three Sony video cameras, rugged transportable video and audio equipment racks and commentator equipment. All equipment is transported in a van that is rented out from the college.

The business office space serves as the planning and operational area for the 11-member student staff of the college's 24-hour student-run leased access cable channel. All ECTV original programs are student produced, and the station is operated by a student Board of Directors, in conjunction with a faculty advisor, the Department's Director of Broadcasting.

ECTV is also affiliated with CNN News Source, The College Television Network, NASA and other affiliates, which provide news and programming for the station.

ECTV-40 serves approximately 25,000 cable subscribers in the Elizabethtown and surrounding communities.


Image Editing


Computer Lab

The Steinman Computer lab houses nineteen G5 Mac and four Dell work stations. This lab includes the latest peripherals for digital scanning (both 35 mm and Flatbed scanning) and CD Authoring. Stations also include zip drives, graphics tablets, and smart media card readers for transferring photos from digital cameras.

The Department updates the lab computers with the latest software
available. Common programs include Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, PageMaker, Go Live, Live Motion, Macromedia Flash, Quark Express, and Microsoft Office Suite. New programs are always under review to keep pace with industry demands.

Photography Lab
The photography lab on the second floor of Steinman Center includes a fully equipped darkroom, a studio area for staging, and a processing/production room. Students are introduced to both color and black and white processing. Courses such as COM125 (Media Design and Production) provide students with hands-on training in the production of photographs from beginning to end.

Graphics Lab
Adjacent to the photography lab is a graphics lab for students completing layout and design projects. This space includes drafting tables, cropping equipment and work surfaces, dry mount equipment, two Media 100 computer stations, and ample space for students to engage in the process of graphic design production.
