In Brief
Dr. Gary Hoffman obtained his PhD under the direction of Prof. Martin
Karplus at Harvard University. His thesis was in the area of
theoretical chemistry. He spent three years as a Directors Funded
Post-doc at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, working with Dr.
Lawrence Pratt. He has continued to collaborate with Dr. Pratt
over the years. The next stage in Dr. Hoffman's career was a job
as a faculty member at Florida International University, where he
worked for the next twelve years. He was tenured and promoted to
Associate Professor during this time and became Chair of the Department
of Chemistry during his final year there. In the Summer of 2002,
Dr. Hoffman came to Elizabethtown College, where he has since been
granted tenure and is now serving as Chair of the Department of
Chemistry & Biochemistry. He continues to perform research in
the general area of theoretical chemistry, focusing mainly on
electronic structure theory. |
