Nearly all vehicular travel to Elizabethtown College from other urban centers requires utilization of the Route 283 transportation corridor. Upon arrival in the Borough of Elizabethtown, visitors are greeted with a relatively positive and aesthetically pleasing small-town environment. The town square located at the intersection of Market and High Streets has especially benefited from downtown revitalization efforts.
First-time campus visitors travelling on Market Street experience some difficulty with locating the College Avenue approach route to the College. More visual guidance is needed along Market Street. The College may wish to consider creating some kind of Campus Gateway at the intersection of College Avenue and Market Street. Also, the campus entrance feature constructed in 1924 near Schlosser Residence Hall may serve as a prototype for any proposed Market Street Gateway.
