Recycling Policy
Our recycling program allows members of the College community to participate in recycling. Our recycling program uses the same procedures across campus. Each building on campus has recycling centers where recycled materials are picked up by the Environmental Services staff. Residence halls have a recycling center in a central location. Each department in academic and administrative buildings has a recycling center. If you do not know where the nearest recycling center is located, please contact Eli Saylor at ext. 1408 or by e-mail to Eli Saylor.
Our recycled paper products are used by Armstrong to make ceiling tile. And, other recycled materials are placed in various recycling streams as shown on the Facilities Management Web site. Students, faculty and staff participate in recycling of paper, metal cans, glass, aluminum cans and plastic.
Paper (White Paper, Colored Paper, Magazines, Newspapers, Books):
-
All white paper, color paper, magazines, newspapers and books can be recycled. Paper recycling containers are located in each faculty and staff office, as well as in computer labs. Faculty and staff participate by delivering their paper to one of the recycling centers located in each department. In residence halls, students participate by bringing their paper products directly to one of the centrally located building recycling centers.
-
Windowed envelopes may be recycled if the plastic window has been removed before placing in recycle containers.
-
Note: Older recycling containers on campus have separate bins for computer paper, white paper and colored paper. These containers now are obsolete as all paper can be recycled together. These containers are being replaced through the annual budgeting process. If your department needs additional paper recycling containers, please contact Eli Saylor at ext. 1408 or by e-mail to Eli Saylor.
Commingled (Cans, Glass, Aluminum Cans, Plastic Containers):
-
All metal cans, jars, aluminum cans, and #1 and #2 plastic containers can be recycled. Commingled recycling containers are located in departmental recycling centers in academic and residential buildings. Additional containers will be placed in public spaces on campus as needed.
-
Note: Older recycling containers on campus have separate bins for plastic, glass and aluminum. These containers are now obsolete as cans, aluminums and plastic can be commingled and recycled together. These containers are being replaced through the annual budgeting process. If your department needs additional commingled recycling containers, please contact Eli Saylor at ext. 1408 or by e-mail to Eli Saylor.
Facilities Management appreciates your assistance in reducing the material that we dispose of at the Lancaster Solid Waste Recovery Center by placing as much of our recyclable material into the recycling stream. Please e-mail or call with any questions you may have about the College’s recycling program.
