Health Services offers blood pressure screenings for students, faculty and staff various times during the school year.

These are held in:

  • Plant Operations Brown Building,
  • Dining Services area,
  • Alpha basement conference room
  • Bush Family Lounge Conference Room A & B.

Blood pressure screenings are also offered during the Open Enrollment held in October and during the Quest blood screening time and the Health Fair both held biannually.

Any member of the campus is welcome to make an appointment for having a blood pressure taken at the Health Center if desired.

Quest Diagnostic Blood Screening

Quest Diagnostics Inc. in conjunction with Elizabethtown College sponsors a health screen biannually. This is a personal, preventive health screen that may determine if you have current or potential health problems. The test includes screening for:

  • diabetes
  • heart disease
  • gout
  • liver and kidney disease
  • A check on your HDL (good) and LDL (bad) cholesterol levels will also be done.
  • Along with the blood testing, you will receive a health/lifestyle questionnaire and evaluation and tips on how to stay healthy.

Your results are strictly confidential and an extra copy is provided for you to give to your personal physician. Both copies of your results will be mailed to your home address. THE COLLEGE WILL NOT RECEIVE A COPY OF YOUR RESULTS. The cost of the health screen is $50.00 which is due on the day of the program.

The testing is done in the Baugher Student Center at a date to be announced. Times will be assigned after a call for an appointment. For best results do not eat for 8-10 hours before testing time . Registration forms will be sent out and need to be completed and returned to the Health Center by the date indicated. Please remember to call for an appointment at extension 1169.
The Health Center will supply orange juice and bagels for after the testing.

Health Fair Is May 8, 2008 from 10-3pm

A community health fair is held biannually sponsored by the Wellness Team of Elizabethtown College. There is collaboration among various departments on campus to achieve our goals including: Human Resources, Dining Services, Plant Operations, Health Services, Development, College Life, Residence Life, Library, Campus Security and Occupational Therapy.

There are approximately 30 plus presenters who participate in the health fair. There are also health screenings available such as:

  • Bone density to check for Osteoporosis
  • Body Fat Analysis
  • EKGs
  • Dermascan to detect possible skin cancer risks.

There are usually door prizes available and valuable information and giveaways at presenters tables. The average attendance is 200.

HIV Screening

Elizabethtown College Health Services offers free HIV screening in conjunction with the Lancaster Aids Community Alliance.

The test is held at the health center twice a semester and the results are confidential. Call x1169 for an appointment when dates are made known to the campus community. Those interested in the HIV screening only give their initials when making an appointment and are instructed to return to the health center at the same time two weeks later for the results.

The health center staff is not involved other than promotion and providing the site.

  • 25% of new infections in the US are found in people between the ages of 13 and 21 years.
  • There are 33.4 million persons living with HIV and AIDS.
  • Out of these 1.2 million are children under the age of 15.
  • It is estimated that 5.8 million adults and children were newly infected in 1998.
  • Eight million Americans under 25 years have contracted HIV.
  • Three million of those are 13 to 19 years of age.
  • One in 62 high school students have reported injecting drugs.

STD Screening

In conjunction with the HIV Screening twice a semester free STD screening is done by the Nurse Practitioner at the Health Center.

All testing is confidential and will not be documented on your Health Center health record. Call Health Services x1169 for an appointment when the date of the testing is publicized. Results will be returned 2 weeks later. Students are tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia at this time.
