  • Purpose and Aims of the History Club

The purpose of the History Club is to provide a social environment for people with a common interest in History. Both majors and non-majors are invited to participate in the club and our discussions of History. Through various programs such as movie nights, speakers, and club outings, we want to complement our learning of History that begins in the classroom.

  • Other Information

Meetings are every other Tuesday at 7PM in the Blue Bean. To be added to the email list to receive the minutes from the meetings, contact Sandi at strobels@etown.edu.

Honor Society
Phi Alpha Theta

Phi Alpha Theta is an accredited honor society for history students and professionals. The mission of Phi Alpha Theta is to promote the study of history through intellectual and social exchanges. To accomplish this, Elizabethtown’s Phi Alpha Theta chapter supports a variety of on- and off-campus activities. Most notably, it sponsors a yearly banquet and scholarly address and its members are active leaders of Elizabethtown’s associated History Club.

The requirements for joining Elizabethtown’s Omicron Pi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta are as follows:

  • a minimum of 12 hours in history courses (courses in which the student is currently enrolled can be counted);
  • an average grade point of at least 3.1 in all History courses;
  • an average grade point of 3.0 in 2/3 of the remaining course work.
  • There is a one-time initiation fee and payment of chapter dues totaling $40.00, which must be paid by the time of initiation. The initiate will receive a year's subscription to The Historian and a certificate of membership.
  • For information on joining the Omicron Pi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, contact the faculty advisor, Dr. David Kenley (361-1238, kenleyd@etown.edu).
