The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and is the largest U.S. international exchange program offering opportunities for students, scholars and professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and teaching in elementary and secondary schools worldwide. It was established in 1946 by the U.S. Congress to "enable the government of the United States to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries."Approximately six thousand grants were awarded in 2004, at a cost of more than $250 million, to U.S. students, teachers, professionals, and scholars to study, teach, lecture, and conduct research in more than 150 countries, and to their foreign counterparts to engage in similar activities in the United States.

Truman Scholarship

The Truman Scholarship provides up to $30,000 in funding to students pursuing graduate degrees in public service fields.  Students must be college juniors at the time of selection.  The Foundation also provides assistance with career counseling, internship placement, graduate school admissions, and professional development.  Scholars are invited to participate in a number of programs:  Truman Scholar Leadership Week, The Summer Institute, The Truman Fellows Program, and the Public Service Law Conference.

Grants

Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans

Application Deadline: November 1
Thirty grants awarded annually for up to two years of graduate study in the United States. Recipients retain loyalty and a sense of commitment to country of origin and to the United States. Only seniors who are resident alien, naturalized U.S. citizen, or the child of two parents who are both naturalized citizens are eligible to apply. Maintenance grant and tuition grant may total up to $36,000. An interview is required.
