Computer Diagnostics

Many perceived computer and electronic problems are often the result of operator or software errors.  Therefore, the Student Computer Helpdesk is available to assist in troubleshooting problems on computers.

For more problematic issues, the Student Computer Helpdesk will take appointments to help diagnose and repair software problems on student-owned computers.  Please note that an appointment MUST be scheduled before bringing a computer to the Student Computer Helpdesk.  Make sure that you have all of the original CDs for your computer and your software available at the time of the appointment.

The Student Computer Helpdesk is unable to assist with hardware related problems.  Please contact the vendor of your computer for additional assistance with hardware related problems.  If you are unsure whether the problem is software or hardware related, please contact the Student Computer Helpdesk for assistance in diagnosing the problem.

Student technicians will spend up to one hour diagnosing and repairing software problems with a computer.  In some instances they will determine that it is better to backup the data, wipe the computer clean, and reinstall the operating system and the applications.  These tasks can take several hours and are best accomplished by an IT professional with more time an experience than our student technicians.  If the problem(s) cannot be resolved by our student technicians within one hour, they will recommend that the client take the system to one of these local repair services.
