Upon graduation the AntiVirus program (Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition [SAV]), which the College required, may be removed from your computer. If you remove Symantec AntiVirus, please install another AntiVirus program on your computer, so you are protected. Two popular free applications are listed below:
Two Ways to Remove SAV:
- Preferred - Add or Remove Programs
- Click Start, Settings, Control Panel
- Double click Add or Remove Programs
- Click Live Update
- Click Remove
- Click Yes
- Click Symantec AntiVirus
- Click Remove
- Click Yes
- If you have other programs running, you may receive an error message that the "...following applications should be closed before continuing..." Close the applications listed
- Click Retry
- Enter the password to uninstall SAV: "symantec"
The password may not work and an error message will appear, "The password entered is incorrect. Please check the Caps Lock key and enter the password again.", even though the password was typed correctly. - CleanWipe Program - if the preferred way doesn't work
- Warnings about SCSCleanWipe: SCSCleanWipe removes ALL Symantec products, not only the AntiVirus program. If you have other Symantec programs installed, make sure you can reinstall them after running SCSCleanWipe. The SCSCleanWipe User's Guide says: "...SCSCleanWipe is an unsupported Symantec tool provided as a fallback resource in case a regular uninstallation cannot properly commence. The tool is provided as an “as is” state and Symantec takes no responsibilities with any unforeseen errors resulting from usage of the tool."
- Download the file: SCSCleanWipe.
- Save SCSCleanWipe.zip to your desktop
- Close the browser
- On the desktop, double click SCSCleanWipe.zip
- Double click SCS_CleanWipe.bat
- Click Extract all
- Click Next
- Click Next
- Click Finish
- Close both SCSCleanWipe windows
- Find the SCSCleanWipe folder, double click it
- Double click SCS_CleanWipe.bat
- The SCSCleanWipe manual is in the Docs folder, SCS CleanWipe Users Guide.doc.
- Subsequent to removal, you may delete any and all files downloaded.
