Head Coach: Skip Roderick '74
Few coaches in the NCAA Division III can match the 25-year run
of success that Arthur D. “Skip” Roderick has enjoyed since
becoming the Elizabethtown College soccer coach in 1983. 17 of his
teams have qualified for the NCAA post-season tournament; the 1989 team
won the national championship.
Through 2008, he has amassed an overall record of 422-106-42 and has had five
teams win 20 or more games in a season; two teams (1988 and 1990) were
undefeated in the regular season. In post-season play, his teams have advanced to the quarterfinal
round of the NCAA Division III tournament nine times since 1985. In 1999,
his squad captured Elizabethtown’s 16th Middle Atlantic Conference
title, the seventh under Roderick. Blue Jay teams played in the MAC
championship game twelve times between 1986 and 1999.
After
1999, the MAC playoffs were replaced by the Commonwealth Conference
playoffs. The Blue Jays reached the Commonwealth Conference
championship game in 2000, 2001 and 2003. Elizabethtown won its 17th
conference title when the Blue Jays won the Commonwealth Conference
championship in 2004. In 2005, Elizabethtown finished as the conference
runner up, and Etown has played in the Commonwealth Conference
championship game five times in the last six years. The Blue Jays
picked up their 18th conference title in 2006, winning the Commonwealth
championship for the second time in three years, and made another
appearance in the title match in 2007.
In 1992, Roderick earned Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Coach of the
Year honors for the fourth time in his career. He also received the honor
in 1990, 1987, and 1985. In 1989 and 1994, he was named Middle Atlantic
Conference Coach of the Year. He was named the Commonwealth Conference Coach of the Year in 2004.
As a player on four Blue Jay clubs in the early seventies, he was named
to the MAC Northern Division all-star team three times. As a senior he
earned All-East Region honors.
Roderick has played professionally with teams in England (Everton and
