Being a Successful Community Member
As a residential student you will experience the joys and even the growing pains of being an active community member. To help ensure success in your community Residence Life provides a few programs that will help build and strength your hall environment. You will find some of those success iniatives below:
First and Second Year Success Plans-these are meetings that will occur one on one between a resident and an RA. This ensures interaction on the hall and allows the RA to better know their residents. This information is then used to help students become more involved on campus or to get them the resources they need for academic support.
This plan will be used in conjunction with the strengthsquest program. The meetings will occur in October, February, and April during the academic year.
Community Development Programming-Residence Life will offer programming to students in various ways over the course of the year. We will be partnering with events being held on campus to make an enhanced experience for residential students, we offer themed socials in the halls, and community development activities for each individual floor. These are great ways to get to know your neighbors and the Residence Life Staff!!
Community Councils-Coming in the Fall of 2008 each floor community in coorelation with their community standards will form a Community Council. These councils will handle lower level violations of the community standards agreements set forth by the hall. These councils will handle cases of noise violations, lower level vandalism, and will hear cases of residents who violate the community standards on that hall community. Information will be given out at the first hall meetings to be held in August 2008.
