The Women's Basketball Program
The Elizabethtown College women’s basketball program enters its 81st season in 2008-09 under the direction of head coach Yvonne Kauffman. As a member of the Commonwealth Conference and, formerly, the Middle Atlantic Conference, the Blue Jays have been one of the most successful teams in the history of Division III women's basketball.
The Blue Jays won NCAA Division III national championships in 1982 and 1989 and played in the title game in 1983 and 1984. Elizabethtown has posted a 24-11 (.686) record over its 13 appearances in the 25-year history of the NCAA Division III tournament. The Blue Jays won the first NCAA Division III championship ever contested in 1982, and it was won in Elizabethtown's own Thompson Gymnasium.
The Blue Jays have also won seven Middle Atlantic Conference championships, one Commonwealth Conference championship, and six MAC Commonwealth League titles.
On February 11, 1999, Elizabethtown became the first NCAA women's basketball program ever to reach the 800 win mark and the only program to achieve this feat in the 20th century. Elizabethtown reached the 900-win plateau on January 6, 2007, and the program currently leads all NCAA Division III institutions with 917 wins in 80 seasons.
Leading Elizabethtown’s basketball fortunes have been a bevy of talented players. A total of 22 players have scored 1,000 points in their career, most recently Erin Walton in 2006-07. Seven Blue Jay student-athletes have been named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's NCAA Division III All-America first team, including two NCAA Division III Players of the Year, Page Lutz ('84) and Jane Meyer ('86). Lutz was named to the NCAA Division III women's basketball 25th anniversary team in 2006.
