We offer programs in Actuarial Science, Mathematics Secondary Education, Applied Mathematics and Pure Mathematics.
Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science
The actuarial science major trains students to manage corporate financial risk. The actuarial profession is well known for its combination of high salaries and low stress. Actuaries are highly valued professionals who work primarily for insurance companies, state and federal agencies, health organizations and consulting firms. The actuarial field has its own well-defined credentialing structure around which the Elizabethtown College actuarial science program is designed. Our courses in economics, corporate finance and applied statistical methods have been approved by the Society for Actuaries for VEE (Validation by Education Experience) credit.
Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
The mathematics major provides students with a rigorous background in pure and applied mathematics. You can choose from these concentrations:
If you enjoy the challenge of solving problems, you may want to become an applied mathematician. Our graduates obtain good positions in government and industry, or continue their education in well-respected graduate programs.
Do you think you may want to become a college professor or work as a research mathematician? Then consider a major in mathematics with a concentration in pure mathematics.
Mathematics Secondary Education
The secondary education concentration prepares students for certification as secondary school teachers of mathematics. Students receive all the training of a math major, together with additional coursework in education and mathematics. The secondary education concentration includes an unusually strong field component as well as close, personal attention with College supervisors during student teaching.
