Kelly Downs '08
Kelly Downs was among 58 recipients of NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships for fall sports student-athletes. She will receive a one-time, non-renewable educational grant of $7,500 through the program.
The Academic All-American of the Year in volleyball, Downs was an honorable mention All-America selection by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), a member of the AVCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region team and the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year as well as a first-team Academic All-District selection.
An occupational therapy major, Downs has a 4.00 cumulative GPA.
Prof. April Kelly-Woessner
Kelly-Woessner and her husband, Matthew Woessner, an assistant professor of public policy at Penn State Harrisburg, conducted a major study of how professors’ and students’ politics interact. They shared their research last year at a hearing for the Select Committee of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, the group investigating political bias on Pennsylvania college campuses.
Media coverage of the study, "Left Pipeline: Why Conservatives Don't Get Doctorates," includes stories in the Chronicle of Higher Education and The Wall Street Journal. Their paper will be included in a book to be published in August by the American Enterprise Institute.
Prof. Donald Kraybill
Senior Fellow at the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies, Kraybill was interviewed by more than 100 national and international media during the Nickel Mines Amish school shooting tragedy. Nationally recognized for his scholarship on Anabaptist groups, he is the author or editor of numerous books and dozens of professional articles. His research on Anabaptist groups has been featured in magazines, newspapers, and on radio and television programs across the United States and in many foreign countries including Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Australia and Japan. He has authored or coauthored seven books on Amish life and culture.
