Alumnus Steve Capoferri, Class of ’90, is the founder of River Rock Academy, an alternative education network of private academies for at-risk youth. Steve founded River Rock Academy after many years in an alternative education school. He was an adjunct faculty member here at Elizabethtown College, where he also held the position of Head Wrestling Coach for six years.  

The Office of Development and River Rock Academy are sponsoring a campus visit by the Freedom Writers. This is the amazing true story of strength, courage, and achievement in the face ofadversity. In 1999 the Freedom Writers’ classroom journal entries were compiled in a number one New York Times best-selling book, The Freedom Writers Diary. It was followed by the film starring Hilary Swank in 2007.  Most of the Freedom Writers never expected to graduate or even survive high school, and are now college graduates and successful professionals. They share their inspirational story with audiences across the country.
