Dr. Magda Bagnied joins faculty as Fulbright Scholar
Magda Bagnied, Ph.D., joins the faculty of Elizabethtown College January 16 for the opening of the 2012 spring semester. As the Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence at the College, Dr. Bagnied brings deep expertise in the role media has served in the continuing evolution of the Middle East. A member of the International Women Media Foundation in the United States, the Egyptian Radio & Television Union and the International Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, Bagnied has presented a top-rated cultural radio program for the European Service of Radio Cairo titled, “Stars on Egyptian land.” Her field of expertise encompasses communications and media, particularly related to analyzing the news.
During her semester at Elizabethtown College, Dr. Bagnied will offer a course under the Department of Communication’s curriculum titled, “Mass Media in the Middle East.” Additionally, Dr. Bagnied will serve as guest lecturer for other academic departments including Business, International Relations, Modern Languages, Music and Political Science. She is available to visit and serve as guest lecturer at other local colleges—Franklin & Marshall, Dickinson, Gettysburg, Lebanon Valley and Susquehanna—that serve as partners in supporting the Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence program. Dr. Bagnied seeks opportunities to engage with local community groups as a speaker, panelist and event attendee.
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Bagnied join our faculty,” said Ambassador John Craig, director of the Center for Global Citizenship, which coordinates the Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence program at the College. “Magda’s knowledge of Arab culture and vast experience in mass communications will offer students unique insight into current world events.”
The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence program provides students with the opportunity to gain exposure to international academic professionals. Elizabethtown College hopes to expand international programming and strengthen the College’s Center for Global Citizenship through the Fulbright Scholar-in-residence program.
