Elizabethtown releases Family Business Survey results
WHAT: The Department of Business at Elizabethtown College and The S. Dale High Center for Family Business will release results from the 2013 (second annual) Family Business Survey at this on-campus presentation. The research study was conducted with four purposes in mind:
- Assess family business confidence in the future, both broadly (Are they optimistic about the future of the U.S. economy?), and more specifically (Do they plan to hire?)
- Learn about adoption of best practices, such as formal ownership transition and written strategic plans along with HR practices, (e.g. written job descriptions and defined career paths) that would position them better for the future
- Understand how family businesses view the current economic and regulatory environment (What internal and external challenges do they face?)
- Understand the unique challenges of family farms in Pennsylvania, which represent a large proportion of our state economy
Agenda:
- Opening remarks–Dr. Sylvester Williams, Department of Business
- Research purposes, methodology and key findings–Dr. Cristina Ciocirlan, Department of Business
- Implications for family businesses–Michael Mitchell, High Center for Family Business; Jayne Sebright, Director of Communications, Center for Dairy Excellence, PA
