Search Engines for Country, Language, or Region-Specific Searches
Search Engine Colossus and Search Engine Guide are comprehensive global master directories of local search engines for regional, country, or language-specific searches. Yahoo! provides country-specific, regional, and official government site search options. Google offers a comprehensive Language Tools Page to search in specific languages or countries, translate text, change language interfaces, or link to country-specific Google sites. Glearch allows you to search for language and country-specific content in "top results from Google, Yahoo and Bing as well as the most popular search engines for the selected country."

Asia Resource Village-- From the Asia Economic Institute, a fine "one-stop portal to Asia with comprehensive listings of resources throughout the region... [whose] unique interface navigates thousands of resource links by country or by category of interest and connects users to an ever-increasing News Feed Directory."
Coombsweb-- From the Australian National University, "the world's oldest and most prominent Asian Studies online research environment" and "home of the Asian Studies WWW Virtual Library."
Portal to Asian Internet Resources-- An excellent portal site from the libraries of the University of Wisconsin, the University of Minnesota, and the Ohio State University that provides "more than six thousand professionally selected, cataloged and annotated online resources" about Asia, with tutorials on using Asian and Asian-language online sources.

• Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)-- "The premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region." Information about APEC, the international economics and trade of the region, latest news, official statements, agreements, and more. Hundreds of free publications for download.
• Asia Pacific Management Forum-- Outstanding for news, research articles, columnists, and resources on Asian business, from the Asian business resources of Orient Pacific Century, Anbar Management Intelligence, and their business and academic partners. With market research guides by country and searchable links to other substantive online sources.
• Asia Pacific Research Online-- From Asian studies specialist T. Matthew Ciolek of the Australian National University, a superb compendium of links to scholarly information related to online research, teaching, and publishing about Asia and related regions and topics.
• Asia Regional Information Center-- Searchable site set up by the Asian Development Bank to provide "an array of regularly updated information about the economic performance and prospects of 16 Asian nations."
• Asia Society-- America's leading institution dedicated to fostering communication between Americans and the peoples of Asia and the Pacific. The site is organized mainly by themes and countries, such as the Education and Learning and Countries and History sections.
• Asia Times Online-- Excellent, searchable source for news and reports on all aspects of Asia today from an Asian perspective, by country and topic, with archives.
• Asian Business Watch-- Has news on Asian economies, stock markets, special reports and presentations, and business contacts, plus a regional search engine.
• Asian Development Bank-- Online data and publications are available from this multilateral development finance institution, including the statistics off the Economics and Statistics page and Key Indicators of Developing Asian and Pacific Countries. Regional and country data and analysis are available off theRegions and Countries page.
• Asian Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Asia-- "Regional partnership of eleven social development networks and organizations in ten Asian nations that envisions Asian rural communities that are just, free, prosperous, living in peace and working in solidarity towards self-reliance." Site posts information and analysis of rural development issues and projects in Asia.
• Asian Studies Network Information Center at the University of Texas, with the main objective of assisting those interested in Asia to find information on the Internet about Asia and Asian Studies programs.
• Association for Asian Studies-- "The largest society of its kind... is a scholarly, non-political, non-profit professional association open to all persons interested in Asia. It seeks through publications, meetings, and seminars to facilitate contact and an exchange of information among scholars to increase their understanding of East, South, and Southeast Asia." Note their "Resources by Area" section.
• Association of Southeast Asian Nations-- Information about this major IGO, its activities, its members, and the region as a whole, including its foreign relations.
• Central Asian Voices-- From the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, "an interactive multilingual website that features timely analysis of political, economic, social and security developments in the five states of Central Asia."
• Central Eurasian Studies World Wide-- Large compilation of resources for the study of Central Eurasia, from the Harvard Program on Central Asia and the Caucasus.
• Channelnewsasia-- Excellent site featuring constantly updated news exclusively from Asia, by category and with special reports, features, and interviews.
• Comparative Connections-- An online journal on East Asian bilateral relations from the Center for Strategic and International Studies' Pacific Forum.
• Council on East Asian Libraries-- The organization for East Asian librarians in North America, with guides to research on East Asia and information about the Council.
• Digital South Asia Library-- From the Center for Research Libraries and the University of Chicago, a compilation of resources for South Asian studies, including references, images, maps, statistics, bibliographies, indexes, books, journals, etc.
• East-West Center-- At the University of Hawaii, "an internationally recognized education and research organization established by the U.S. Congress to strengthen understanding and relations between the United States and the countries of the Asia Pacific region." • Eurasia Foundation-- "Privately managed non-profit organization supported by the United States Agency for International Development," active with private enterprise development, public administration and policy, and civil society in the Eurasian region. • EurasiaNet-- News, country information, features, analysis, discussion forums, and weekly bulletin about the region of Central Asia, from the Central Eurasia Project of the Open Society Institute.
• Far Eastern Economic Review-- Leading newsweekly for Asian economic and business news and analysis, with searchable archives.

• Integrated Regional Information Network-- From the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, providing searchable news items on crises in Asia.
• National Bureau of Asian Research-- A nonprofit, nonpartisan U.S. institution that conducts advanced research utilizing the world's premier specialists on Asia and Russia, and serves as the international clearinghouse on regional expertise and important policy issues. Strategic Asia presents statistics about Asian countries, by country or in a datasheet comparison format.
• South Asia Resource Access on the Internet-- From Columbia University, one of the very best South Asia resource gateways on the Web, which is also the World Wide Web Virtual Library for South Asia.
• South Asia Terrorism Portal-- From the Institute for Conflict Management, in New Delhi, "information, data, commentary, research, critical assessment and analysis on terrorism, low intensity warfare and sectarian strife in South Asia."
• South Asian Women's Network-- A forum for those interested in women's issues in the six countries of South Asia, with many topical subsections and a moderated mailing list, based at Concordia University in Canada.
• South China Sea World Wide Web Virtual Library-- Part of the WWW Virtual Library system, "an online resource for scholars and policy-makers interested in South China Sea regional development, environment, and security issues."
• Tibetan and Himalayan Digital Library-- "An international community using Web-based technologies to integrate diverse knowledge about Tibet and the Himalayas for free access from around the world. Serving a wide range of communities, we publish multilingual studies, multimedia learning resources, and creative works concerned with the area's environments, cultures, and histories."
• United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific-- From the U.N., news, analysis, and statistics about development, population, environmental, and trade issues in Asia and the Pacific. Note especially the Statistical Yearbook for Asia and the Pacific.
• US-ASEAN Business Council-- This organization represents the American private sector and posts business and general news and information about the countries and economic concerns of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
• World Bank East Asia and Pacific Information-- Papers, discussion notes, and reports dealing with the full range of economic, environmental, and social issues facing East Asia and the Pacific today.
• World Bank Europe and Central Asia Information-- Papers, discussion notes, and reports dealing with the full range of economic, environmental, and social issues facing Eastern Europe and Central Asia today.
