Attaining and Rewarding Student Success
Our students’ success is of the utmost importance to us. Some students look for additional opportunities for achieving success. Programs such as the Honors Program and Prestigious Scholarships and Fellowships provide our students the opportunity for going above and beyond.
Our Honors Program is not only an academic program, but also a multifaceted experience. Honors students engage in challenging course work in advanced Honors courses, which they can study for with 24/7 access to the Honors Center. However, the experience is more than academic; it is also social as Honors students have extended first-year orientation and housing in the Honors Living Learning Community in Schlosser Residence Hall. The Honors Program also has its own Honors club, Honors Student Council, in addition to participating in numerous other extra-curricular activities around campus including Student Senate, Called to Lead, and our numerous a cappella singing groups.
The Honors Program seeks to provide enhanced learning opportunities for students who have excellent academic records, superior academic potential, intellectual promise, and demonstrated initiative. We promote high standards of scholarship, leadership, and service among those students selected for the program. In Honors classrooms, the focus is on critical thinking and problem solving; skills that our graduates say gave them an edge over their peers in the job search and in application to graduate school programs.
Gifts to the Honors Program will help enhance the program to best meet the needs of these students while providing services for our high achieving students.
Through enrichment opportunities and personal mentoring from faculty and staff throughout the entire application process, we encourage high-achieving students to pursue nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships that fund undergraduate and graduate study, study abroad, and independent research. While these scholarships are not funded by our institution, we do provide assistance and guidance to encourage student success.
More Etown College students have received the highly competitive Fulbright Scholarships than any other institution in Pennsylvania. Our students are also recipients of Rhodes, Davies-Jackson, and Goldwater Scholarships, and the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals.
The Prestigious Scholarships and Fellowships Program identifies potential applicants, advises and mentors students all while preparing applications and working to develop future applicants. Our efforts led to seven Fulbright recipients in 2015, including four students and three professors. All four students used their scholarships to travel abroad and teach. Recipient Matt Walters ’15 said his Fulbright sponsored trip was an “incredible opportunity to experience a different kind of teaching.”
Gifts to Prestigious Scholarships and Fellowships allow our faculty and staff to cultivate more students toward becoming members of these elite groups of scholars while building Elizabethtown College’s national and international reputation. A $25,000 gift enables you to name a scholarship directed towards the pursuit of prestigious scholarships and fellowships around the world.
