Short-Term Study Abroad Trip to China

Dates: May 12-27, 2018

Credit: 4 history credits, cross-cultural SLE

Program Fees: $1,500

Additional Expenses:  Round-trip airfare to China (estimated at $1,200), Chinese visa ($140)

Description and Learning Outcomes: In addition to seeing such historical highlights as the Great Wall and the Terracotta Warriors, this trip will introduce students to the history of Church of the Brethren missionaries in China.  We will visit Shanxi province where we will study the heritage of peacemaking as seen through the activities of missionaries during China's tumultuous revolutionary history. 

Itinerary Highlights: Beijing (Great Wall, Forbidden City), Xi'an (Terracotta Warriors, Muslim Bazaar), Shanxi (Pingyao UNESCO site, Brethren missionary sites), and Shanghai (International Bund, Jade Buddha Temple)
