April 19 will be a BIG day for Blue Jays! Students, faculty, staff and alumni will come together for a celebration of monumental proportions. Nothing quite like this has ever happened at Etown! It will be one day dedicated to celebrating our spirit—the spirit of being a “Jay!” There will be prizes and contests, carrot cake and food trucks, Conrad (our very own blue jay) and LOTS and LOTS of BLUE! Blue Jay Swag and crazy costumes that scream BLUE JAYS, will be the order of the day and will take over the campus as everyone—President Strikwerda included—dresses to celebrate our Blue Jay spirit. And we’ll give a nod to our professors and staff members who inspire us all to be better citizens of our world.
This all happens on the same day we welcome prospective students for a Jay for a Day program and recognize our stand-out students at the annual Student Awards Ceremony. As the planning continues, we will reveal even more details of the day…check back often for the addition of more “cool blue” stuff.
A tweet from Conrad’s Twitter account (@BlueAndConrad) will go out at 11 a.m., noon and 1, 2, and 4 p.m. offering a clue to his whereabouts on campus. The first person to arrive at his location, snap a selfie with him and post it with #EtownJayDay will receive a prize valued between $15 and $25!
Wear a crazy Blue Jay outfit! Post a picture to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using #etownjayday, or email it to senate@etown.edu to enter. Prizes valued at $50 each will be awarded to the most spirited student, faculty or staff member, department or office and alumni.
Alumni can get in on the action too! Wear your Etown swag all day long! Tweet us a picture and your class year.
Like an Easter Egg hunt—but BETTER! Twenty BLUE eggs will be hidden around campus with 20 chances to win prizes! Eggs will be hidden in the morning and afternoon. Clues to their locations will be posted on social media at 11:50 a.m. and 1:50 p.m. with #EtownJayDay. Find an egg? Scoop it up and turn it in to the table on the BSC patio at 3 p.m. to collect your prize (about $10 value each)!
Calling all parents of current Blue Jays! Students, remind your parents that they have a chance to win a t-shirt for themselves and Etown swag for you, too! Between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Etown parents can share, on our Facebook page, their proudest parent moments since their “little jays” have become Blue Jays! Three winners will be chosen at random and announced at 7 p.m. on April 19.
Write or draw your favorite part of being a Jay or what being a Jay means to you.
20% OFF anything with the Blue Jay on it, as well as 20% OFF all jackets (additional 10% faculty/staff discount applies).
Find disposable cameras around campus; snap a picture, and then watch for posters that will display all the Blue Jay Day fun you’ve captured!
A flash mob will appear somewhere on campus during the day. Keep your eyes open—it wouldn’t be any fun if we told you when and where it would be!
Start your day with YOGA at 7:30 a.m. in the Academic Quad with the Blue Jay. Don't forget your yoga mat!
Come support your classmates at the annual Student Awards Ceremony in Gibble Auditorium. Awards include the distinguished student awards and Called to Lead awards.
Have you been inspired by a member of our faculty, staff or administration? Come to the table in the BSC between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and jot down a note (or two) of thanks! Notes will be delivered throughout the day - this translates to lots of smiles and happiness on campus!
Listen to the sweet voices of Vocalign in the Blue Bean at 11:30 a.m., Melica on the steps of the High Library at 11:40 a.m. and Phalanx on the BSC patio at 11:50 a.m.
Take a break, and come to Brinser Field! Play your favorite games such as corn hole, ladder golf and more!
Sit back, relax and listen to music from WWEC on the BSC Patio until 3 p.m.
Swoop up that t-shirt you missed at Homecoming. Student clubs will have clearance items for sale from 2 to 4 p.m. in the KAV.
Stop by the area behind the BSC around Brinser Field and curb the munchies. The Jay Truck will be open from 2 to 5 p.m., and the Lancaster Cupcake Truck is there from 2 to 4 p.m.
Free! Stop by for a piece of cake; meet Conrad, our very own Blue Jay, in “person,” and learn about the Audubon Center and where he lives when he’s not on campus.
