The Human Performance Lab (HPL) at Elizabethtown College in partnership with Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster, LTD serves as a dynamic space for testing, evaluation, and performance open to the public. Located on the second floor of Elizabethtown College's Bowers Center for Sports, Fitness and Well-Being, the HPL is fully equipped to evaluate every aspect of a client's health and wellbeing. We achieve this through personalized attention, comprehensive analysis, and a customized pathway to personal improvement.

The purpose of the Lab is to deliver sport, health, and exercise science services to the College campus community as well as our surrounding communities, with the aim of enhancing individuals overall wellness. The HPL aligns with the mission of Elizabethtown College to use our knowledge, talents, and energy to positively make a difference in the lives of others.

Center for Excellence in Exercise Science

  • The provision of improved human performance expertise, services, and facilities in the area of physiology, biomechanics, strength and conditioning, psychology, dietetics and technology.

  • The implementation of exercise science strategies that develop knowledge and/or technology.

  • Close collaboration with associated organizations and support staff to design plans that use cutting edge knowledge and technology from all the available resources.

  • The implementation of systems to ensure that all information given to participants is accurate, valid and reliable to achieve the highest standards of scientific rigor.

  • The creation of a fostering environment within the community to develop local expertise equivalent to the highest standards in the sport science industry.

  • The HPL is housed within the Bowers Center for Sports, Fitness, and Well-Being

    The Bowers Center for Sports, Fitness and Well-Being serves as a dynamic campus hub for health and well-being as well as supports the College’s expanding athletics program.  It provides purposeful programming and a state-of-the-art facility that inspires, educates, and empowers the community to cultivate healthy and active lifestyles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect during my visit?

Upon entry into the Bowers Center, you will be greeted by Chad Gerhard, the Director of Human Performance. Prior to beginning any testing, you will have access to a private changing room where you can prepare for the session. Chad will walk you through exactly what will occur, depending on the assessments being performed. Following the testing, you will have the opportunity to sit down and review the results before leaving. These results will be detailed and address your needs specifically with an individualized prescription designed specifically for you to improve your results.

Where do I park / directions?

Parking is available in the Bowers Center parking lot located off of Cedar Street. 

How do I pay?

Payment can be made following your session by various methods including credit card or check. All major credit cards are accepted. We do not accept cash.
