I would classify my work as primitive expressionistic because of these raw emotions that I lay out on my canvases. --Katie Kressler
"I graduated from The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art's Post-Baccalaureate graduate program in May 2011. In this program I was concentrating on painting, but also exploring mixed media and sculpture. I graduated from Elizabethtown College in the 2006 with a B.A in Fine Art and a minor in Business Administration.
Through my explorations I have found many exciting paths for my art to go. I have gone from painting folklorist portraits to examining my spiritual self and what it means to be an artist in the world today. I have a love for ink and lines, which shows throughout many of my works. The mixed media and sculpture pieces were inspired by my love of wood and found natural objects. My paintings of interior spaces are a reflection of myself and my emotions at the moment. I would classify my work as primitive expressionistic because of these raw emotions that I lay out on my canvases. Artists such as Mama Anderson, Jean Michel Basquiat, Joan Snyder, and The Cobra Movement especially inspire me.
I live in Philadelphia and participated in an art show in July 2011 at Volo Coffee House in Manayunk, Pa. I am still making art and after completing the Post Baccalaureate program, I have a better understanding of managing studio time and being able to work through slow periods."
