Faculty and Staff Contribution to Diversity and Inclusion Award
As part of the celebration for Martin Luther King, Jr. Week, Elizabethtown College will sponsor its Fourth Annual award to recognize outstanding contributions to diversity and inclusive excellence at the College. Two awards will be given, one to a faculty member and one to a non-faculty member of the college staff, accompanied by a monetary award of $500 each.
Nominations should be submitted to the Office of the President (firstname.lastname@example.org) no later than December 3, 2014. The final selection of awardees will be made by a committee comprised of faculty, staff, and students. Awards will be announced during the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Opening Session on January 19, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in the KAV, Brossman Commons.
The criteria for nominations include the following: Integration of diversity into the curriculum, developing and teaching a diversity course which includes experiential learning, and providing diversity programs and education. Diversity research and publications, addressing diversity in campus life, social justice, and global learning also feature opportunities to illuminate contributions to diversity and inclusive excellence. These descriptors should be considered in relationship to the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A more complete definition of diversity can be found in the plan for Embracing Inclusive Excellence: A Five-Year Plan for Strengthening Campus Diversity. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to nominate persons they believe are deserving of this award.
A letter of nomination describing the nominee's work is required for submission. All nominations must provide the following information.
- Name, department, rank, title, and length of time at the college;
- Description and specific reason for recognizing the person according to the criteria above;
- Statement of how the nominee's efforts have advanced the College's work toward diversity and inclusion and its benefit to faculty, staff, and students.
- Total description must not exceed 4 pages double-spaced.
