ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College wrestling team hosted Delaware Valley College, ranked third in Division III, and Division II Kutztown University in a tri-match at Thompson Gymnasium on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays (1-5 overall) lost to Delaware Valley 29-16 and fell to Kutztown by a 26-15 score

Against Delaware Valley, the Blue Jays picked up three victories on the mat, including a 7-3 win by first-year student Tyler Erdman (Herndon, PA/Line Mountain) over fourth-ranked Chris Sheetz at 125 pounds. Senior Jereme Heisey (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) took an 11-1 major decision at 165 pounds over Jake Phillips, and junior Paul Connor (Tabernacle, NJ/Shawnee) held on for a 5-3 win over the Aggies' Cody Reeves at 174 pounds.

Against Kutztown, Erdman defeated Clayton Youtz 10-3 at 125 pounds, Heisey edged Sonny Flood 3-2 at 165 pounds and junior Deron Sharp (Millville, NJ/Millville) pinned the Golden Bears' Victor Montanez in 4:20 at 197 pounds. At heavyweight, junior Tim Katzaman (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) scored a takedown as time expired in the second sudden-victory period for a 4-2 win over Cory Rutt.

In Wednesday's other match, Kutztown and Delaware Valley wrestled to a 19-19 tie as the Aggies won the heavyweight bout in the first sudden-victory period to salvage the deadlock.

Elizabethtown Competes at Messiah Duals

GRANTHAM, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College wrestling competed in three matches at the Messiah Duals on Saturday, and the Blue Jays were defeated by Shippensburg University 28-10, Waynesburg College 27-18, and Seton Hill University 19-13.

First year student Tyler Erdman (Herndon, PA/Line Mountain) led the Blue Jays with 3 victories, winning by major decision against Shippensburg and Seton Hill, while junior Tim Katzaman (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) picked up two wins on the afternoon.

Senior Jereme Heisey (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central), junior Mike Lussier (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), sophomore Bill Meaney (Toms River, NJ/Manchester Twp), junior Eric Rhoads (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central), first year student Kyle Deeds (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) and junior Deron Sharp (Millville, NJ/Millville) each had one win for the Blue Jays (1-3 overall)

Elizabethtown Competes at Ursinus Fall Brawl

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College had five placewinners at the Ursinus College Fall Brawl on Sunday. There was no team scoring at the tournament.

Junior Tim Katzaman (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) was runner-up at 285 pounds to Brock Glotfelty of McDaniel College for the second time this season, as he fell in the finals after picking up two pins and a decision to advance to the title bout.

First-year student Tyler Erdman (Herndon, PA/Line Mountain) took third at 125 pounds with an 8-3 win over Kyle Kinchen of the College of New Jersey. Erdman suffered his first loss of the year with a 5-4 setback to 9th-ranked Rob Miller of Thiel College, who went on to win the weight class, but finished the day with four victories.

Senior Jereme Heisey (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) was third at 165 pounds after defeating Chris Stout of Thiel 5-2 in the third-place bout. He went 4-1 with two major decisions on the day, and suffered his only loss by a 3-2 score to eventual champion Justin Bonitatus of TCNJ, who is ranked sixth in the country.

Sophomore Marty Harnish (Marietta, PA/Donegal) was fourth at 133 pounds after picking up three wins on the day but falling twice to Steve Kingsland of Ursinus, including a 2-0 setback in the third-place bout.

Sophomore Brian Keyser (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) added a fourth-place finish at 285 pounds after falling in the third-place match to Cecil Lee of the Apprentice School. Keyser claimed two wins on the day, including a pin in 2:02 of John Christopher of Washington & Lee University.

Sophomore Josh Cook (Gardners, PA/Boiling Springs) fell in the consolation semifinals at 174 pounds, but turned in a strong performance that included three pins, with two coming in the opening period.

Wrestling downs Johns Hopkins, 35-3

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa --- Elizabethtown College won nine of 10 bouts against Johns Hopkins University in a 35-3 win in non-conference wrestling action on Wednesday evening at Thompson Gymnasium. 

First year student Tyler Erdman (Herdon, PA/Line Mountain) earned a 2nd periond technical fall at 125 pounds to give the Blue Jays a five point match lead they wouldn't relinquish.  

The Blue Jays got bonus point wins from sophomore Bill Meaney (Toms River, NJ/Manchester Twp.) who picked up a first period fall at 197 pounds in 1:22 and junior Tim Katzaman (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) who won by forfeit at 285 pounds.

Earning decision wins for Elizabethtown, at 133; sophomore Marty Harnish (Marietta, PA/Donegal), at 141, junior Eric Rhoads (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central), at 149, first year student Ronnie Cuff (Pittsgrove, NJ/Schalick), at 157, junior Mike Lussier (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), at 165, senior Jereme Heisey (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central), and at 174, junior Paul Connor (Tabernacle, NJ/Shawnee).

Elizabethtown Finishes Second at Messiah Invitational

GRANTHAM, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College wrestling team opened its 2008-09 season with a second-place finish at the eight-team Messiah College Invitational on Saturday.

The Blue Jays, who had just 16 of their 30 wrestlers in action, scored 80 points as a team to finish behind the host Falcons, which tallied 84 points. McDaniel College (62.5 points), Waynesburg University (62 points) and Case Western Reserve University (61.5 points) finished third through fifth, respectively.

Elizabethtown claimed a pair of individual champions at the tournament, as first-year student Tyler Erdman (Herndon, PA/Line Mountain) posted four falls to win at 125 pounds and junior Eric Rhoads (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) took the championship at 141 pounds.

Erdman rolled to the championship match with technical falls over Thomas Hsu of UMBC (18-0), Zach Morris of McDaniel (15-0) and Jimmy Millar of Case Western Reserve (20-2), then pinned Josh Boyle of Waynesburg in 3:45 in the finals.

Rhoads claimed a 4-2 decision over Rocky Barilla of Johns Hopkins University and an 8-4 win over James Bloom of Ursinus College to advance to the finals, where he edged top-seeded Justin Bowser of UMBC by a 3-2 score to claim the title.

Sophomore Bill Meaney (Toms River, NJ/Manchester Township) finished second at 184 pounds to Nate Murren of Ursinus after advancing to the finals with wins over Chuck Thomas of Waynesburg by fall in 58 seconds and Matt McHugh of Messiah by a 4-3 score.

Junior Tim Katzaman (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) placed second at 285 pounds to Brock Glotfelty of McDaniel, after wins by decision over Ethan Covalt of Messiah (5-0) and Matt Rugani of Johns Hopkins (3-1).

Senior Jereme Heisey (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) finished third at 165 pounds after defeating Leif Huber of UMBC by a 7-4 score in the third-place match.

Fourth-place finishes came from first-year student Will Bentley (Elverson, PA/Owen J. Roberts) at 125 pounds, junior Mike Lussier (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) at 157 pounds and junior Paul Connor (Tabernacle, PA/Shawnee) at 174 pounds.
