Back to top 4/30/2009 Women's tennis has three named to All-Conference team FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Thursday, April 30, 2009 Elizabethtown Has Three on All-Commonwealth Women's Tennis Team Juniors Emily Swarr (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) and Jessica Russell (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) were first-team selections while first-year student Sarah Poulle (Wilmington, DE/Cab Calloway School) was a second-team pick as well as the league's Rookie of the Year. Swarr was named first-team All-Conference for the second straight season and is an All-Conference pick for the third time in her career, while Russell and Poulle are first-time honorees. Swarr finished with 10-9 record playing at number-one singles for the Blue Jays, while Russell posted a 12-6 mark at number-two singles. Together, the duo combined for a 16-2 record at number-one doubles including a perfect 15-0 record in dual matches. Poulle played at both third and fourth singles for the Blue Jays and finished with a 6-11 overall record, including a 5-9 mark in dual matches. In doubles, she compiled a 14-5 record playing with a pair of partners. The Blue Jays concluded their 2008-09 season with a 10-5 overall record and finished as runner-up to Lebanon Valley College in the Commonwealth Conference team tournament. Lindsay Schmidt/Madeleine Goldfarb (MUHL) 8-6 Back to top 4/26/2009 Women's tennis falls to LVC in Commonwealth finals ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS Lebanon Valley 5, Elizabethtown 2 LANDISVILLE, Pa. --- Lebanon Valley College won its first-ever Commonwealth Conference women's tennis championship with a 5-2 victory over Elizabethtown College at the Hempfield Sports Complex on Sunday.The Flying Dutchmen (18-3 overall) won two of three doubles pro sets and captured three singles matches to take the title from the defending champion Blue Jays (10-4 overall). The Blue Jays gained their doubles point from the number-one team of juniors Emily Swarr (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) and Jess Russell (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) who defeated Shayna Heintzelman and Sarah Grodzinski 9-8 (7-5). Russell also picked up a win at number-two singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Kelly Moll, but the Dutchmen won at first, fifth and sixth singles to reach five points and clinch the match. Sarah Poulle/Ashton Heydt (ETOWN) 8-3 Back to top 4/25/2009 Women's tennis advances to Commonwealth finals with 5-1 win over Messiah ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS Elizabethtown 5, Messiah 1 LANDISVILLE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College advanced to the championship match of the Commonwealth Conference women's tennis team tournament with a 5-1 victory over Messiah College on Saturday morning at the Hempfield Sports Complex.The Blue Jays (10-3 overall), who won their seventh straight match, will face Lebanon Valley College in the championship match on Sunday at noon after the top-seeded Dutchmen defeated Arcadia University 5-0. Elizabethtown opened the match by winning two of three doubles pro sets.
