Etown Stomps Delaware Valley, 8-2

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Lauren Potosky (Wrightsville, PA/Eastern York) and Mindy Nace (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata) each scored a pair of goals to lead Elizabethtown in an 8-2 blowout of Delaware Valley at home Saturday.

Potosky scored each of the game's first two goals, at 26:36 and 17:16 remaining in the first half off assists from Nace and Brandy Espenshade (Grantville, PA/Lower Dauphin), respectively. Delaware Valley (1-2) struck back at 16:12 with a goal by Sara Astbury to narrow the gap to 2-1. From then on, Etown took over, compiling a 4-1 lead by halftime as Nace scored off an assist from Lisa Zbyszinski (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic), and Zbyszinski followed with a goal of her own from Jama Weigher (Enola, PA/Cumberland Valley).

Espenshade scored with 30:42 remaining in the second half, and Nace scored her second goal off another assist from Weigher four minutes later. Four minutes after that, Kelly Miller (Robesonia, PA/Conrad Weiser) drove through the Delaware Valley defense for an unassisted goal to make the score 7-1 in Etown's favor. With 10:48 remaining in the game, Vanessa Fritz (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) scored the first goal of her collegiate career off a pass from Kate Gwilliam (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) to give the Blue Jays an 8-1 lead.

Delaware Valley's Amy Hummell scored with 4:37 remaining for the game's final goal.

Etown goalie Lisa Marquette (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) made 12 saves. Delaware Valley starting goaltender Leigh Stiffler had 13 saves, and reserve keeper Lauren Duke made three saves.

Elizabethtown (2-0) returns to action on the road Saturday, September 14 against McDaniel College, formerly known as Western Maryland College. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
