The Services We Provide

At Etown, the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors is our top priority. The Campus Safety office provides a wide range of services to support and protect the campus community. From safety escorts and emergency response to medical transportation and secure residence halls, our team is here to ensure everyone feels safe, supported, and cared for at all times.

Campus Safety will provide a safety escort for students, staff or faculty, anywhere from one location on campus to any other on campus location at any hour of the day or night. Safety Escorts will most often be offered on foot, and are provided by the Campus Safety officers. Safety Escorts may be offered by vehicle if our patrol officer deems the situation warrants vehicle service.

Call Ext. 1264 or 717-361-1264 to request this service. Request for Safety Escorts may also be made from any Blue Light Phone on campus.

  • Requests must be submitted Monday–Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Additional Notes

Transportation is not available for speakers, special guests, or others — unless specifically approved by the Vice President of Student Life or the President’s Office. Most transports are provided by trained, College-approved student drivers. Patrol officers will not leave campus to provide transportation if they are the only officer on duty. Transports may be canceled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Policy Enforcement

Campus Safety reserves the right to deny requests from individuals who have abused the transportation policy.

  • First Violation: Written warning
  • Second Violation: Service termination

To request transportation, contact Campus Safety at 717-361-1264 or security@etown.edu.

Service is available from the start of the academic year in August through the last day of finals in May.

Security on the campus grounds and in parking areas is provided by Campus Safety officers, either in patrol vehicles or on foot.

Security lighting and Blue Light telephones have been installed throughout campus, including parking areas. These phones can be used to contact Campus Safety in case of emergency or to request an escort.

Residence Hall Security

Security in the residence halls is provided by both Campus Safety and the Office of Residence Life. Officers regularly patrol residence hall areas, check doors to ensure they are secured, and communicate with Residence Life staff on duty.

Access to the halls is limited to students and their guests per College policy. College employees may only enter residence halls on an "as-needed" basis under strict access protocols. Residence hall doors remain locked 24/7, and a sign-in policy is in place for all overnight guests.

Ground-floor windows in residence halls are equipped with two locking mechanisms for added security. Special procedures are also implemented during low-occupancy periods to maintain student safety.

Administration and Academic Building Security

Campus Safety officers provide security for administrative and academic buildings. These buildings are locked during night hours when not in use and are regularly patrolled by Campus Safety staff.
