The Eugene P. Clemens Award
The Eugene P. Clemens Award is annually given to a student who has demonstrated, by speech or actions, the promotion of peace, tolerance or social justice on campus or in their community. The award has been established to honor Dr. Eugene P. Clemens, Elizabethtown College Professor of Religion and Philosophy Emeritus, who practiced and promoted peace, tolerance, and social justice throughout his career. The award is overseen by the Center for Global Understanding and Peacebuilding (CGUP) and implemented by the Elizabethtown College Alumni Peace Fellowship.
About the Award
The Eugene P. Clemens Award honors Professor Clemens' legacy and his lifelong dedication to peace, social justice, and student mentorship. The award is presented annually to an Elizabethtown College student who demonstrates leadership in promoting peace, social justice, or tolerance on campus or in the broader community. Recipients of this award will also receive a monetary prize in recognition of their contributions.
Nomination Process
Any member of the community may nominate a current Elizabethtown College student. Nominations must include the student’s name, phone number, email address, and a short paragraph describing their contributions. The nominator’s own name and contact information should also be included.

About Professor Emeritus Clemens

Dr. Eugene P. Clemens
For 35 years, Dr. Eugene P. Clemens was a Professor of Religion and Philosophy with a specialty in Social Ethics at Elizabethtown College. He assisted in establishing a Peace Studies minor at the College and was a founding board member of the Elizabethtown College Alumni Peace Fellowship. During his time at Etown, Dr. Clemens served as a mentor to generations of students outside of the classroom while providing many decades of service to promote peace, tolerance, and social justice.
