"Rhinoceros" by Eugene Ionesco
March 23rd to April 1st
"Rhinoceros" by Eugene Ionesco, Translated by Derek Prouse, Directed by Griffin Yeyna & Emma Mesko. Set in a small town in France, people start to mysteriously transform into rhinoceroses. As social order is turned upside-down and the world as we know it becomes unrecognizable, one good for nothing drunkard will stand alone against the chaotic force of the rhinoceroses. Rhinoceros was written post World War II by Eugene Ionesco as a response to the rise of Fascism in Europe. With startling parallels to the world we live in today, this play explores themes of logic, mob mentality, mass movements, social trends, conformity, and identity. All of which is tackled with the subtlety of a Rhinoceros in this whacky, classic piece of French avant-garde theater. Hippopotamus? Preposterous! Come see Rhinoceros. We hope to see you there! Performances: March 23, 24, 30, 31, and April 1 at 7:30 PM March 26 at 2:30 PM "Rhinoceros" is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com
