Commuter Information

The commuter student at Elizabethtown College is defined as a student who lives at his/her permanent residence with family members, usually with a parent(s) or guardian(s) within a 30-mile radius of the College. The student who has been officially released from her/his residency agreement to reside locally in off-campus housing is not considered a commuter student. 

In order to submit an application to be released from the Residency Agreement, please complete the application below. All commuter applicants must provide a notarized letter from a parent/guardian confirming you will be commuting from your permanent home address.  While it is not required, you are encouraged to include a personal statement.  Completed application packets should be submitted to the Office of Residence Life.

 

Off-Campus Housing Information

Students wishing to live off campus must apply to be released from their residency agreement.  Off-Campus Housing Applications for the 2019-20 school year will be available online and at the Office of Residence Life beginning Monday, November 19, 2018.  Only a certain number of students will be allowed to live off campus each year. This number changes from year to year based on enrollment projections. Due to the current plans to renovate Hackman Apartments over the summer and well into 2019-20 academic year, the College will be releasing a specific number of rising seniors from the College Residency Agreement.  Applications may be printed from the link below or picked up in the Office of Residence Life. 

Criteria for releasing rising seniors:  1.  conduct history, and 2. highest point distribution on the Housing Selection Intention Form (will be emailed to students on Jan 22).  If there are multiple students with the same point value assigned to a specific option, then the lottery numbers will be used to order that group of students.

On January 31, rising seniors will be notified if they have been approved or wait listed.  Students who are approved have until February 11 to accept the offer to move off campus.  On February 12 students from the wait list will be notified if they have been approved and then will have until February 14 to accept the offer.  A wait list will be kept in the Office of Residence Life in case more releases need to be offered at a later date.

The College understands that some rising juniors and sophomore students have extenuating circumstances that need to be reviewed as they impact a student’s ability to reside on campus. If you are a rising junior or sophomore and feel you have an extenuating circumstance, please complete the application below.  In order to determine which students may be released from the Residency Agreement, the College will convene a panel of staff to review each student’s documentation and make final decisions.  

Please note that applying does not guarantee you will be released from housing.  Students who move off-campus without the consent of the Office of Residence Life, will be required to pay a fee as outlined in the College Residency Agreement

2019-20 Application timeline:

November 19, 2018 - Fall 2019 Applications available at Residence Life, on the website and emailed to rising seniors
January 25, 2019 - Applications due by 4:30 pm in the Office of Residence Life.  Must be submitted in hard copy form.
January 31, 2019 - Notice of off-campus and commuter release approval sent to applicants via email and available in Residence Life
February 11, 2019 - Deadline for accepting off-campus or commuter status (must reply by 12:00pm)
February 12, 2019 - Wait listed students notified if offered off-campus release
February 14, 2019 - Deadline for wait listed students to accept off-campus or commuter status (must reply by 12:00pm)
